Just as things seemed to be going well, they got worse! Every time I finally wrapped my head around my relationship with Edgar, something bad happened. Not necessarily bad, but, more like an obstacle.
So, after many awkward moments with Lucy, she finally approached me, and we talked.
"Hey, gorgeous."
"Hey, Lucy. How are you?"
"Arg, I've been better. How are you?"
"I'm okay, thanks."
"That's good. So listen, I did some thinking. I've been a real ass to you, Grace and I'm so sorry."
"Lucy, it's okay..."
"It isn't and you know it. You're like a sister to me and I love you. So, can you forgive me?"
"Of course, silly!" I smiled, pulling her in for a hug.
"And to be honest, I've missed you...so much!" She added.
We giggled as we made our way to class, arm in arm. It's sort of a good thing that we'd made up. But it couldn't have happened at the worst time! When Lucy finds out about Edgar, all hell would break lose. The rest of our friends were already in class.
"Good morning," we greeted them.
"Hey, you guys," Naomi replied.
"Lucy, how did you get to school? I waited for you," Donna asked.
"Waited where?"
"Outside your house."
"I took the bus. Sorry."
"Next time, call."
"Sorry, geez."
"Why'd you take the bus?" Bebe asked.
"Why not?"
Bebe shrugged nonchalantly and continued on her phone.
"So, you guys do remember that my birthday is like a few weeks after Homecoming, right?" Luce reminded us.
"Oh, yeah! What are you planning to do this year?" I asked.
"We've partied so much, I don't think I want to do it for my birthday."
"How about we dress up real nice, book a table at the Oracle and have dinner there?" Donna suggested.
"Actually, that's not such a bad idea! Maybe afterwards we could go back to my house and have our own little party there? I'll ask my mom to give us space."
"I'm in!" voted Bebe.
We all agreed. It was settled then! Lucy's birthday celebration was sorted. Now on to the next topic: Homecoming.
"I don't even have a dress for Homecoming and it's next week!" Brooke cried.
"Same here," Lucy admitted.
"I don't think any of us are ready for this," Donna laughed.
"What have we been doing?" I asked.
"Boys," Naomi sighed.
"Luke," Bebe grunted.
"Oh no, you guys!" I cried out in realization.
"What?!"
"How and when are we supposed to get ready for Homecoming, when we've got this stupid detention everyday?!"
"This whole detention thing is bullshit. Davis couldn't have picked a worse time," Lucy snapped.
"I say we go talk to her, make her see reason, and then maybe she'll let us go," Naomi voiced.
"That will never happen, Mimi."
"It's worth a try," Donna agreed.
"That bitch is probably fucking Luke that's why she's always doing what's 'best' for him," Lucy raged.
Bebe quickly tapped on Lucy's arm to keep her quiet. We all looked up and saw Luke standing right in front of us. Rolling our eyes, we pretended to be busy on our books.
"Girls, how are you doing this morning?" He smirked.
We ignored him and continued paging through our books. He frowned and crossed his arms on his big puffed up chest. Standing there for a few seconds we heard him chuckle, "Fine," he said. "Bebe, I'll be seeing you after school." Without another word he turned on his heels and walked away. Talking to him isn't something any of us wanted to do, but ignoring him wasn't the brightest idea.
As soon as the bell rang for after school, we dragged ourselves to the gym for our punishment. Ethan and I hadn't spoken since our 'date'. Before the bell even went off, he was already standing next to me, ready to walk out with me. "Let me take that for you," he said to me, taking my bag.
"Thanks. I'm going to the gym," I informed him.
"What for?" He asked.
"Because of your friend," I replied, rolling my eyes.
Luckily for us, a lot of Homecoming preparations were taking place in the gym. Instead of scraping gum, we ended up helping around with the float, the band, etc. We unexpectedly saw Brooke walking in with Caleb, holding hands.
"Brooke! What are you doing here?" I wondered.
She gave a heavy sigh, "I don't want you guys lecturing me, okay? But I didn't go to that stupid extra lesson," she confessed.
Hunter and Josh walked in as well.
"Hey, guys. We thought we'd come give you girls a hand."
"Yep. In that way the work will be done quicker and you'd be done with this stupid punishment," Hunter added.
"Thanks, you guys!" We chorused.
Ethan also showed up all sweaty and pulled me aside.
"Are you done yet?" He asked, excitedly.
"No, Ethan. I'm not done. What's up? What do you want?"
"Thought maybe we could drive together," he spilled.
"Oh?"
"Yeah. Just want us to hang out like we said. Don't want anything to be weird or awkward."
I stood on my tippy toes to give him a kiss on the cheek. I could feel his body go lighter, he was so tense and stiff. He had been on the field being tackled. When I stepped down, I gazed into his eyes and I could feel my heart race. "Not today," I regretted. "How about tomorrow? Right after school," I suggested, instead. Giving him a smile, I brushed his arm and walked away.
"Y- yeah," he agreed, touching the spot in which I kissed.
