"Hey, does this look alright?" Giselle hands me a canvas that she just made.
Against the purple background were many buildings with colorful neon signs written in Japanese.
"90s Japanese street vibes?" I asked as I the canvas to Winter.
Giselle nodded and Winter gazed over the canvas. She was munching on the bag of chips we shared. Quickly washing her hands, she returned the canvas to Giselle and started sketching on her own canvas. We were at the art club, the perfect place to paint.
"That looks awesome Mingxia," a lady with straight brown hair glanced at my canvas. Today, she had her gingerbread brown hair in a ponytail. I thanked Ms. Kang, our art teacher. I had sketched a landscape with cherry blossoms on my canvas.
"Are you making that for someone?" Giselle asked.
"Nah, it's for a contest," I replied.
"There's another contest at school? Wasn't there one just last month?" Winter said.
"Not at school," I informed them. "Ms. Kang told me about another one."
"Where are you submitting it?" Giselle questioned.
"Remember that place where we both attended summer camp together?"
"Oh, where we first met?" I nodded back to Giselle. "That's cool. You know what would've been cooler? If Mr. Huang, the camp instructor, was one of the judges.
I scratched my head and added, "I think he is."
Giselle raised her eyebrows with surprise and I pulled out my flyer. The flyer had all of the information about the contest. I placed my finger where Mr. Huang's name appeared under the judges' section.
"Huang Renjun. Yup, that's him. He was an interesting teacher," Giselle said.
I chuckled at her response and asked, "Are you guys painting anything?"
"No, I'm writing on my canvas," Giselle replied sarcastically, referring to the canvas she had shown to us earlier. "Well, I'm actually making something for my mom since her birthday is coming up."
"That's sweet of you," I ignored Giselle's sarcastic remark. "Winter, what about you?"
"Uh, I'm," Winter gave a small smile. "I'm making something for Jungwoo."
Giselle smirked and started teasing Winter.
"How many times are you going to tease me? The readers will get bored!"
"And you? Are you making anything for your crush?" Giselle looked at me.
"I mean, I could. It's not a bad idea."
"You should, it won't hurt. It might just help you become friends with Lucas," Winter stated.
"Yeah, that's possible. After all, Lucas did invite her to his birthday party," Giselle added.
"But then again, he invites everyone to his birthday party," Winter commented which gained her a look of disapproval from Giselle.
"I'll try my best," I smiled. "I'm happy that I was at least able to celebrate his birthday with him."
I'll try my best, even if he sees me as just another human being.
