After a depressing break up and a lot of whining, Jisung convinces himself to try Tinder again. One night after swiping on the app, he comes across a man who definitely fit his standard and was his ideal type, but to Jisung's annoyance, they didn't...
The sky overhead was bright, every star standing out against the velvet blackness. "Wow..." Minho breathed. "It's beautiful."
"It is," Jisung said. He was very pointedly not looking at the stars.
"You forget it's up there," Minho said softly, his head still craned upward to watch the sky. "All of that, buried behind smog and light pollution."
"Yeah," Jisung leaned in, trying to follow Minho's gaze. He'd seen the sky for ten lifetimes, but trying to see them through Minho's eyes added a sort of magic to it. "Is that a comet?" He pointed. A pinprick of light flashed across the sky in a long arc before it disappeared.
"Is that a what now? Do you mean shooting star?" There was a soft tremor as Minho tried to contain his laughter—
"What's so funny, huh?!"
"Is that a comet?" Minho mimicked in a silly, high pitched voice, a mischievous glint present in his eye.
"Oh shut up!" Jisung giggled, playfully hitting him on the arm.
"No look, there it is again!" he gasped, tightly squeezing Minho's hand.
That was the first time they touched like that. Their eyes also connected; transfixed, gazing in awe at the spectacular sight above them. They were engulfed, almost paralyzed by its vastness, its intangible beauty.
When it disappeared once again. They sighed before looking back down at the earth. "That was nice," Minho hummed.
Jisung hesitated for a moment before he slid a little closer to him. "It was, and I can't think of anyone else I'd share this with."
Minho looked away, his hands tightly clasped in his lap. "You're very good at flirting. But still, I will never let you live down the fact that you called a shooting star a comet," he teased.
"I don't know much about stars and stuff, okay?!" Jisung interjected. "To be honest, I had never really been interested in these before."
"Oh? So I'm guessing that you brought me here because you wanted to impress me. I'm sure you read the description in my Tinder profile which stated that I love space related stuff."
His explanation was surprisingly spot on. "Fuck. You got me there," Jisung muttered to himself, but the other man heard him anyway.
"Thank you. I really appreciate it," Minho said as he took Jisung's hand in his, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
Jisung picked up the sentiment immediately, and a small smile graced his lips. Even though they were walking, now that Minho was holding his hand, his heart was racing.
"I don't usually hold hands on the first date, but I'll make an exemption," as Minho said the words, he realized that he'd already made plenty of exceptions for Jisung that night.
Jisung tried to be suave and said the line, "What else don't you do on a first date?" but as he said it out loud, he immediately regretted it and wished he could shove the words back inside.
Minho, however, glanced at him, then let out a laugh that sounded like it came from the pit of his stomach. When he finished laughing, he stopped walking and smiled softly. "This."
Jisung also stopped, and he looked at the man in confusion. Without warning, Minho rocked forward and placed a soft peck on his lips.
As he pulled away, he took in Jisung's reaction and immediately started to freak out. Jisung's expression looked akin to a short-circuited robot. Only after Minho waved a hand in front of his face did he finally blink.
"I'm so sorry, I should've asked first, I—" Minho went to ramble on, but Jisung stopped him by holding his hand up. There was a sheepish smile stretched across his lips and a light flush across his cheeks.
"No, it's okay, Minho. I liked it. It's okay."
After that, they both walked in silence for a minute before Jisung cleared his throat, "Would it be too much if I asked for another date?"
Minho looked at Jisung with an incredulous expression on his face. "I was going to ask you the same," he admitted with a smile on his face.
Jisung could've sworn his heart stopped for a few beats. The night he fell in love with stargazing was the night he fell in love with Minho.
