Hell wasn't that nice. It wasn't the training that made you adopt this opinion, but rather other students. You had lost count of how many times you were called "old man" or got hit on by women hardly older than twenty.

That aside, though, the training was amazing. If sparring with Splatoon was a treat then training at UA was an entire fucking bakery.

Today - your second day at UA - was dedicated to testing the limits of your quirk. You hadn't even gone yet, the professor having decided that given your powers, you had to be last. You didn't mind. Watching other people's quirks was fascinating.

So far the most riveting performances came from:

1) Nagashima Ginko, a young woman who possessed a water quirk. She could conjure up about a metric ton of water in less than a minute, but had trouble controlling it when ejecting it as a high pressure. She'd have to improve her balance and probably put on some more muscle of she wanted to use her quirk at its full potential.

2) Misaki Hirokumi is a man in his late twenties. His quirk allows him to extend his muscled and tendons. It's not a pretty sight but he's trained hard to find a way to use his quirk offensively. The only drawback is that his ligaments do not stretch. Had that been the case, he'd be able to manipulate his body with shocking accuracy.

3) Miki Hirako is a woman in her mid twenties. Her quirk allows her to strengthen one part of her body. The greater the surface area of the body part, the weaker the effect. Her close quarter combat needed serious work but her reflexes were extraordinary.

4) Aoi Yoshinaka is a 19 year old, who is incredibly far sighted. His marksmanship is insane. If he acted as a sniper, you're convinced he'd be better than the pro hero Snipe himself.

5) Finally, Sando Tatsuki has a quirk that is very useful for both long range combat and covert operations. Wallflower, is what they called it. It allows them to blend into the background from any angle. When their quirk is activated, they might as well be invisible. It's better than invisibility though, as they can communicate with people, be recognized as a person, but their appearance forgotten a minute later. You hoped they'd train with Yoshinaka-kun in future.

"Excuse me," A soft voice came from your left. You turned to her, giving her a well meaning smile.

"Yes?"

"I'm...Haga Kyouko. I've got a psychic type quirk and I would like to test it on you if you don't mind?" She seemed incredibly bashful.

You patted the ground next to you, inviting her to sit. "What does your quirk do?"

She plopped down next to you, her thick brown hair slapping against her shoulders. "It's called Mirror. It makes me feel whatever emotions someone is feeling when I look them in the eye."

Your eyes widened. "That's so cool! Lay it on me, Miss."

She smiled weakly, before finally looking you in the eyes.

"You're curious? And excited. No. Analytical. It's an intense desire for knowledge.  More controlled than excitement."

"Spot on, Miss." You mused.

"Can you think of something that makes you angry? I need to learn to control more violent emotions."

"Ah alright. Hmm." You thought about your mother, testifying against you - condemning you to Hell. You thought about the Warden and the scientists and the stupid fucking guards-

You stopped thinking when her breath hitched, her eyes frantically darting to the side and thick tear drops were being suspended on her long eyelashes.

"That's-" She sobbed, and you unconsciously put your hand on her shoulder to comfort her. Is she the type of person to cry when she's angry?

"That wasn't anger," she managed to croak out. "That was fear."

You frowned, genuinely confused. "I feel angry, though?".

She wiped a hand over her face. "Maybe that's your defense mechanism? That you get angry whenever you experience a negative emotion? No it's not that. It's more likely a-"

She paused. "A trauma response. Oh God I'm so sorry."

"Shit. And here I thought I was in touch with my emotions. Take it you've got some background in psychology?"

"Yeah. I was a profiler."

"Woah. For real? That's awesome. I met a few while they doing internships and they were great. You guys are fucking smart."

"I...I guess."

You scratched your head. "If you don't mind me asking, why do you want to be a pro hero?"

She sighed. "I could only catch criminals after the crime had been committed. I could only find the motive behind a man killing a dozen people but I couldn't save them. The victims may have experienced justice but they remain just that. Victims. I want to be able to stop these things before they happen. I know it's hopeless - my quirk is functionally useless."

"I think it's pretty useful. Especially if you improve your CQC skills. Shit, there are so many useful support items, you'd even be able to decide if you'd prefer mid range combat. The only thing that you'd have to learn to do is manipulate."

"Manipulate?" She asked incredulously.

"Think of it as scare tactics or fear mongering. Kind of like Gang Orca's persona, or Endeavor's flaming facial hair. Your strength would be using the villain's emotions against them."

"I don't know if I could do that."

You shrugged. "It's up to you. My fighting style relies heavily on intimidation tactics and shock factor. If I have to I can bait my opponent by manipulating them. As long as I don't kill anyone, or scar them for life, I do whatever I can to win. But I'm not exactly righteous."

She nodded, pensive. "I'll think about it."

"(L/N)! You're up." The professor shouted. You stood up and walked to tge center of the training field.

"As you know, you can find volunteers, spar - whatever the fuck. Just remember to push your limits. That being said, the top two heroes in Japan recommended you to this university. You better meet my expectations."

A small hand. White leather.

And with that you were shooting into the air.

"Let's show off, guys!" You addressed all the spirits. You could feel a thrumming inside your own soul. The spirits' excitement as palpable as your own.

"Let's kick ass." Arisu whispered over your shoulder.

"You don't have to tell me twice."
