Chapter 17: Crime Part 1

"You got that? Remember all the steps?" asked Ben as he whispered.

"Yes yes yes, I got it. We'll make sure those kids don't bully our classmates anymore" whispered Alex.

"And now, let's go! Time to rock" said Ben.

As Ben and Alex approached the rich kids still bullying others, a teacher suddenly got in Alex's way.

"Excuse me, you're Alex right?" asked the female teacher.

"Yes.....how can I help you?" asked Alex nervously as he thought he got caught.

"I need your help, I'm worried that the police won't help me now" said the teacher.

"........Let's take a seat somewhere else" said Alex while motioning to Ben that he'll be going.

Ben suddenly had a face that said "Eh, what?! What do you mean you're going somewhere else?! What about the plan?!". His motions also expressed it and some passing students looked at him weirdly.

In a conference room normally for staff only, Alex and the teacher sat down in the chairs. Alex mentally called for James and she was immediately standing right by his chair in a millisecond.

"So, what is this problem that you're being so secretive about?" asked Alex.

"I'll.....cut to the chase, my grandparents have been gold scammed. Before we could go to the police when we realized something was not right, my grandmother suddenly got a strange message on her phone saying that if she reported this to the police....her bank account will be emptied and people will come after her because they know where she lives. She and my grandfather are now terrified and so am I" said the teacher.

"I see.......tell me everything. What exactly happened?" asked Alex.

"Well, it began about about 5 days ago, my grandfather was the one who got the call. The caller on the other side said that he was my grandmother's lost brother. When my grandmother heard the name that this caller had given, she was suspicious because she had never heard this name before in her family. I don't really know how but these people she and my grandfather met up with one day, they convinced them that he really was my grandmother's relative. Then these people made up a lie about wanting to start an orphanage and that they found treasure somewhere and they wanted to sell the gold to my grandparents to start this orphanage" said the teacher.

"And did your grandparents buy this gold of theirs? And this person wasn't alone?" asked Alex.

"Yes, unfortunately they did. They paid over two hundred thousand dollars for several ingots and this scammer was not alone when he came to see my grandparents. There was another man" said the teacher.

"If your grandmother already suspected something wasn't right in the very beginning, why go through with this and entertain these people?" asked Alex.

"Here's the thing and I'm sure you are aware, the elderly are more susceptible to falling for such scams and tricks. They're not as smart or as savvy in today's world as most of us are" said the teacher.

"I take offense to that" said James with her gloved arms folded while looking away.

"Ah! I'm sorry James, I didn't mean to offend you! I didn't mean to offend your sisters either!" apologized the teacher.

"Mmm hmm, of course.......I'm sure. Continue" said James while looking back.

"I..........anyways after my grandparents paid them and received the ingots and bars, they took them to a store that sells gold. It was there that the store owner told them that these gold items were all fake after he had tested them. When my grandfather called the number he had been using to communicate with these people, the phone was off. That's when they received another message from a different phone number and that was where the threat came from. I got called frantically by my grandparents and that's how I heard the story" said the teacher.
