Amy hulled the pile of wood out from behind the trees and carried them over to the fire pit outlined in large stones. She carefully placed the wood the way Alexis had taught her and shoved some paper under the wood. She sat back and closed her eyes. Her mind wandered to her parents. She didn't know what they looked like or who they were because Amy was only a couple weeks old when her parents died. Alexis has long, wavy, auburn-red hair, and all Amy had was messy, brown, spiraled, snarls, at shoulder length. So she imagined her mother with Alexis's beautiful crown of auburn water flowing down her back against her pale skin, and her father with Amy's brown curls in a short fatherly style.

Amy's thoughts were interrupted when she heard a branch crack under foot. She stood up and turned in the direction of the noise, she didn't see anything so she called "Allie? Should I start the fi-mmhpp!" Her mouth was clamped shut with a hard callused hand, and she tried to scream for Alexis but the hand dug deeper into her mouth.
