I was shaken awake as Amy came back with Dr.Neil. Her arm was in a purple cast and she sat down on a chair.

"Mark, would you mind helping Alexis, I'm going to put her cast on." Dr.Neil said, sliding into the room.

"No prob." Mark responded, standing up to aid me. We left Amy in the room, and headed down the long hallway. "Did you call Clery back?" Mark asked, his arm around my waist, supporting my weight.

"I called back briefly to tell him I would talk to him tonight."

"Did you get the number he called from?" I asked, limping down the hall.

"He called from a pay phone, and told me to call him back on a pre-paid phone."

"Darn. Could we listen to the conversation? Maybe record it?"

"I'll let you guys stay at my house tonight, and I'll call him on speaker phone so you all can hear. What color cast do you want?"

"Ok. Black's fine, thanks." He took us into a room and put my cast on. After that, we went back to the room to find Amy asleep in a chair. Dr. Neil gave me some crutches and a wheel chair. I preferred the crutches because sitting down and being pushed made me feel helpless.

Mark carried the wheel chair and Amy carried the bag as we followed Dr. Neil out into the parking lot and he told Mark the direction of his house. We piled into the minivan and followed Dr. Neil's ford focus down the street and into a little neighborhood. It was dark out and the clock said 1:13 a.m. Amy had fallen asleep again in the back seat, and it was a good ten minutes or so before we pulled into the drive way.

Dr. Neil's house was a ranch style beach house, with white paneling and blue accents. Mark parked the car and opened my door. He helped me out of the car and we walked to the trunk to get the bags. Mark grabbed the wheelchair and carefully lifted my sleeping sister into it. We walked up the ramp and into the house. Dr. Neil closed the door behind us and pointed over to the couch.

"You can set her down there. I'll grab a snack then we can call Clery back." He went into the kitchen part of the large room and pulled out some bowls. Reaching into the freezer he grabbed some chocolate ice cream and handed a bowl to both Mark and me. We walked over to the desk in the right side of the room. Mark pulled up a chair for himself and moved the wheelchair over so I could sit with my ankle elevated. Dr. Neil sat down at the desk and picked up the home line. He dialed a phone number and put it on speaker phone.

The room was silent as it rang once. Then twice. Then three times. Finally the tone stopped.

"Dr. Neil! I've been expecting you."

"Hello Clery. You called?"

"Yes, I just wanted to ask you something. Do yea remember Patrick?" Dr. Neil opened his mouth to answer but Dr. Cleary cut him off.

"Never mind. I guess I can just ask his daughter. Alexis darling, how's your foot?" I froze. Mark glanced at me. Then looked at Dr. Neil. "What's wrong darling? Cat got your tongue?" I stared at Dr. Neil, frozen to the spot.

"Clery, you must be mistaken, it's just me here. Alexis is not with me." He responded before the pause became too long.

"I can't be fooled Neil, I'm smarter than I used to be." He responded, his accent spluttering.

"What do you want!?" I almost screamed, losing my patients. Mark slapped his hand across my mouth and stared at me in aww.

"Ahh, Alexis. How are you? Your foot feeling any better?"

"No. Thanks for asking." I said before turning myself around in the wheelchair and dragging Mark with me. I pulled him across the room and over out of ear shot. The doctors chatted behind me and Dr. Neil tensed as I rolled away.

"What the hell was that?" Mark whispered. "He can't know we're here."

"To late for that." I said. "How did he know I'm injured?"

"No idea. Why did you burst out like that?"

"I'm tired, grumpy and out of patients. He obviously knew we were here, and by the sound of his voice, I'm pretty sure he wasn't about to lose that argument."

"Fine. But next time please keep your trap shut." He said rolling me into the kitchen. He sat the bowls in the sink as Dr. Neil hung up the phone.

"What did he say?" I grunted as I moved myself from the wheelchair to the crutches.

"All of the sudden he started to talk about the weather and the ocean. It was really odd. I'm pretty sure all he wanted was to confirm his suspicion that you were with me."

"Hmm. I guess we'll sleep on it." Mark said, turning to Dr. Neil.

"Will we be safe here?" I asked, taking turns looking them over.

"You'll be fine, this house is very protected for a little ranch." Dr. Neil answered, reaching into a cabinet under the counter. He pulled out some plastic bags and rubber bands, then offered them to me. "Why don't you two go shower. It's been a long day. I'll get Amy to bed."

"Thank you Doctor" I said, taking the bags and limping down the hall. Turning back over my shoulder I called, "Where are we sleeping?"

"There are two extra bedrooms, one has two twin beds, you and Amy can sleep in there. Mark can sleep in the other one. Make sure you wrap the plastic tightly around the cast and knot the rubber bands tight. I don't want to have to replace the cast tomorrow." I nodded then went and showered.

Markhad dropped my bags full of clothes off in my room so I got dressed in thedark, listing to the soft breathing of my sister. My hair was dripping wet downmy back and I was tired of limping around so I threw my hair up into and knotbehind my head and laid down in the bed across from Amy.{U7
