~Buzz Buzz Buzz~
Lisa wakes up to the annoying sound of her phone vibrating on the edge of the bed. Rolling over to turn it off she notices the picture of her best friend Samantha flashing on the screen. Breathing out a heavy sigh she picks it up and hits the answer button.
"What?" She had no time or patience for any drama today.
"Lisa? Why are you not up and packed? You know what today is right?" Her best friend's excited voice makes her roll her eyes and pinch the bridge of her nose.
The two best friends had been planning a weekend get away for months. A long weekend away from life, work and their significant others. Well hers anyway, two weeks ago Lisa had become single yet again. She had found her boyfriend of two years had been seeing someone on the side for the past four months. Things got heated and the cops were called, but nothing hurt more than her own pride for trusting someone yet again, after they said they loved her and would never hurt her.
"Lisa? Heeelllloooo? Lets go! Tahoe remember? You need this trip more than anyone ever in the history of trips!" She was using her singsong voice that always put a smile on your face, but not today. Every day for the past two weeks felt like she was walking around in a fog. Nothing had purpose, just nothing!
"Yeah, yeah, I'm awake now. Meet me over here in twenty minutes." She pulled the phone away from her ear and hit the end call button.
Rolling out of bed she packed a few sets of clothes and her bathing suit into a small carry on bag she always travelled with. Looking down at the side of it she noticed the purple sticker that was standing out against the grey material. It was a Hawkeye sticker that her ex had bought for her a few months ago that he insisted she put on her bag for this trip. She had no idea what had gone wrong in the relationship, he was always so good to her, but there was always a dark thought in the back of her mind.
The doorbell rings as she is pulling her bag over to the door. Lisa opens it and Sam is standing there with two coffees in her hands and a cheesy smile on her face.
"Liquid gold for the best." She hands her one of the coffees and grabs Lisa's bag walking back out the door.
"My car!" Lisa hollers after her. "I'm not dealing with your car breaking down halfway there."
The two of them laugh as Sam places the bags in the back of Lisa's truck. She gets in the passenger seat and already has her phone out with music queued up.
"Lets get this show on the road." Sam squeals.
Lisa turns the key as the truck roars to a start and they head off down the road.
"I know what will make you cheer up!" Sam was looking over at Lisa with an evil grin. She messes with her phone and taps the screen. "There."
The music starts playing:
I know
She'll be my third degree
Embers in her eyes
She's gonna make a mess of me....
Lisa turns to Sam trying her best not to smile. "It's not going to work. Not even JR could pull me out of this funk. I know I've tried." She turns her eyes back to the road trying not to tap her finger on the steering wheel. Sam knew this was her go to pump up song, but Lisa didn't want to smile right now. The only reason she decided to go on the trip after everything that happened was because she didn't want to let her friend down.
"I know this is hard, but I'm here to make sure you have the best weekend ever. Besides I have it on good authority that he may be around Tahoe this weekend." Sam nudges Lisa in the arm.
