Tony lay stretched out on the sofa, his casted leg propped up on a pillow while Addy lay sprawled against his chest, chattering away at him about the million and a quarter ideas she'd had while he'd been missing.

Tony, for his part, listened distractedly as he twirled one of her soft brown curls in his fingers.

They were in a cabin, further from New York than many had bothered outside of missions. There was a lake and dock, though Tony largely ignored it. Natasha had spent several hours over the last few days out in it teaching Shiloh to swim. They were there now, a fact Steve was absently keeping track of by ear as he sipped his coffee at the kitchen counter.

Bucky waved a hand in his face, raising a brow. "How long you been staring at stark?" He asked flatly, his tone seemingly devoid of emotion.

Steve downed the rest of his coffee, black, though not because he actually liked it. Tony kept a coffee bar stocked with every topping, flavor, and mix in He could imagine artfully arranged across it...he simply didn't know how to make use of half of it. Besides, black was familiar. "You remember Stark? The other Stark, Howard...what he seem like ta you?"

Bucky snorted. "All coke, no gin," he replied as he collected a mug of his own. "Guy was a blowhard who thought a hell of a lot of himself and saw buddying up with you as a way to make others see what he did. Why?"

He shook his head, gaze going back to Tony thoughtfully. "When we met, I told him some things...I made some crack judgements that weren't at all true and just, I had him pegged all wrong."

"You'd wanna have him pegged..." Bucky snorted under his breath. "I don't get the connection. So he's not what you thought, what's that gotta do with his old man?"

"Some things he said when we were out in those mountains..." Steve shook his head.

"Daddy it's our bird!" Addy gasped suddenly, lurching off him so quickly she thudded to the floor with a loud bang.

Before Tony could fuss over her she was scrambling into the kitchen excitedly. "Cap!" She demanded, pointing toward a canister atop the refrigerator. "Hurry before he thinks we abandoned him!"

Bucky, who was closer, reached up to grab the canister with a bewildered expression and she was off again, racing to the back door. It clacked on its hinges behind her and Buck glanced back at Steve curiously.

"Little gold finch," he explained quietly. "Apparently the pair of them fixed it up sometime between the chitari and everyone movin in. Comes back to see them and bum seeds. As for Howard and Tones..." Steve sighed heavily. "He doesn't say much but, he says enough. When I saw Tony I thought he's not Howard but he's a connection and for us that's something...then I thought I knew him and I couldn't believe they're so different. Now I'm kinda thinkin maybe I didn't know either of 'em. But I know a little more'an I did. What I know about Howard I ain't likin..."

"And what you know about the younger, only has that curious little trouble maker in their goin nuts," Bucky rolled his eyes as he flicked him in the center of his forehead. "He's a dad, Stevie. How many kids you been around since our time?"

"Addy likes me..." he attempted, though even Steve didn't sound sure.

"I've seen her scowling at you," Bucky disagreed. "And I'm told she's threatened you a few times for being cranky at her pa..."

"Whatever," Steve huffed. "Tony gets that cast off soon and I'm gonna ask him out..."

Bucky grinned, an expression that seemed foreign on his face now where it hadn't in their time. "Tell me When," he demanded. "I got you all your dates back in the day so I would love to watch you go solo. Fly free baby bird. I'll even kick you out the nest myself."

"Har har," Steve huffed.

"Hey Cap?" Tony called out, interrupting their conversation. "Will you go out and check Addy. I know Nat's out there but I don't want her near the water..."

"Trusts me with the kid..." Steve singsonged happily under his breath as he climbed to his feet. "Sure thing, Tones."
