I ran and ran home until I was out of breath. This was very normal for me. I always acted like that when I was around sick people. I opened the front door of our house and slipped in. I felt the beads of sweat on my forehead, not trying to catch any attention. I tip toed towards the stair.
"Mavis, don't you think it would be a little kind, if you announced that you were home" I heard Dad say it and believe me I could smell his breath full of the stench of wine.
I turned around and went to the lounge where the rest of the family was sitting.
"Hello people" I said.
"That's nice" my father said.
He was dressed in his white shirt and khakis, his shirt was untucked, belt's buckle opened and his eyes were bloodshot.
"uhhun" was all I managed to say.
"You wretched little thing. This is all that you can say "uhhun" what about that party at Brook's place. Where were you? I had to face a hell lot of embarrassment because of you. Have you ever done anything good for the family's name? All you could do was to bring good grades home, but now you are not even getting those. You are not desirable for anything. You are a disgrace to me" he roared.
I felt the tears well up in my eyes, but didn't dare to. Because that would show that I am weak.
"I am sorry" I said.
"You are sorry eh? Don't be because you are grounded for two weeks, and listen this carefully you disgraceful child, one more grade A and you are out of the house. Is that clear?" he shouted.
"Wait, you can't do that" I stuttered out.
He came towards me threw his mug at the floor, spilling the beer all over the carpet. I backed away but was soon pinned to the wall. He grabbed my ponytail and pulled it and said through gritted teeth
"Don't you dare answer me back!"
With that he left.
I ran up to my bedroom and cuddled into my blanket and cried till there was no water left in my eyes. I kept starring at the ceiling. And out of nowhere thought of calling Aunt Jessie again. I wiped my face and called once more
"Hello?" I said.
"Hello this is Mr. Gordon speaking from Chicago Police Station, how I may help you?" a heavy voice said.
"I need to talk to Jessie Caster prisoner no 312"
"Okay hold on I will be right back with her" he said.
"Okay" I said.
A tune started playing. After 15 mins .
"May I know your name miss?" Mr. Gordon said.
"Yeah it's Mavis, Mavis Steve" I said.
"Hello?" I heard Aunt Jessie said.
"Hello? How are you?" I said suddenly a smile forming on my face.
"I am good, my love. How are you?" she asked.
"I am good. How is everything there?" I asked almost instantly.
"Well the food isn't very good. You know?" she said in a humorous way.
"Aunt, I am serious. I am worried sick about you" I said.
"I know sweet heart. But, right now we don't have enough time to discuss that. I want to tell you something really important. Alright?" she said quickly.
"Go ahead" I said, now sitting on my bed.
"You know William Brooks right? He is not a very good guy. He is trying to manipulate your Father. I knew about him from the start and tried to tell your Father about it. But he didn't listen to me. He is the reason I am here." She said.
"I think you have misunderstood him Aunt." I said hesitantly.
"Think upon my words chi............" is all that I ever heard from her before the phone was hung.
I just sat there and thought all about it. But couldn't make myself believe that Brooks was the villain of my life. I slept very late that night and woke up with the sound of the alarm.
*time lapse*
I parked my car in the parking lot and thought about Tobin still with his girlfriend. The thing is that I am kind of getting jealous of her. I jumped out of the car and so Tobin beside his car.
"Hello" I said walking towards him.
"Hey" he said.
"And may I ask where is Kate" I said.
"Well we broke up last night" he said.
I laughed so hard.
"You know you can make a Guinness world record. One day! That's all." I said laughing.
"Shut up." He said flatly.
I gave him a look and fell silent.
"Well you know something terrible happened last evening" I said.
"I want every single detail" he said.
I told him all about Derek and him trying to touch me, and after that he became too overprotective and walked me everywhere.
*time lapse*
As Tobin was supposed to go with his mother for shopping. I had no plans, so I went to Starbucks and drank a smoothie. My phone started vibrating. I took it out and saw the familiar face of Tobin on the screen. I picked it up.
"Hey" he said
"Hey wassup" I asked.
"Where are you?" he asked.
"uhh at Starbucks" I said confused.
"Go home and change in something casual. We are going somewhere. I will pick you up at 6; oo pm" and hung up.
I took a glance at my watch. It was 5; 30 pm. I grabbed my cup and broke in a sprint to the parking lot and drove to my house. I changed and within no time Tobin was honking his horn. I went downstairs and jumped in the shotgun.
"Hello Tobs" I said cheerfully.
"May I say, you look beautiful my lady" he said giving me a smolder, and started his engine.
"Well thank you my kind sir" I said.
He was a muscular guy, had a wheetish complexion, he had a pure American accent. Today he was wearing a midnight blue T. shirt with wings on it, which I figured out were the symbol of cold play.
"Okay so where are we going?" I asked buckling my seatbelt.
"We are going to the middle of nowhere" he said a smirk playing on his mouth.
"I am serious" I said looking at him.
"Alright then you have got to guess it" he said.
And after that I named every single thing I could imagine and the whole time he just said no. he parked his car, I couldn't identify the place.
"Is this where you kill me? " I asked acting like Channing (in step up 1).
"No this is where I make your dreams come true" he says dramatically.
"Oh wait have you found my prince charming" I said putting a hand on my heart.
"No. now would you please shut up" he said.
"Okay" I said and slumped my shoulders.
