karen took another picture of mike in a suit, "mom, i need to go."

"mom, i think you need at least one more picture," nancy said sarcastically.

"very funny." karen took a few more pictures, "you guys will be thanking me in the future for taking pictures."

as nancy and mike walked out the door, karen yelled, "also, no drinking!"

mike rolled his eyes, "it's prom... a school dance."

"just be safe. you never know."

nancy and mike got in the car, "are we picking up your boyfriend or are you meeting him there?" nancy asked.

"meeting him there."

nancy clicked her tongue, "that's not very romantic."

"well, why doesn't jonathan pick you up?" nancy ignored his question and continued driving to school.

"they allow graduates at prom?" will asked when he saw jonathan following him as he walking into the school building.

"they let me buy a ticket as a guest. i already told you this."

"i thought you were joking."

they gave their tickets to the person at the desk near the gym. they walked in and went their separate ways. will didn't see mike yet but he did see lucas and max so he walked over to them.

"hey guys."

"hey," they both said.

"when did you get here?"

max and lucas looked at each other then back at will, "just a few minutes ago. we came here together because we're dating now..." lucas' voice trailed off.

"oh, finally." max gave will a questioning look, "he's liked you ever since he met you."

"will!"

max laughed, "that's cute."

steve walked over to them with robin trailing behind, "hey, it's my favorite juniors!"

"shouldn't you be with your date?" robin asked and walked away.

"do you guys remember robin?" steve motioned to robin but then realized she walked away. "okay, anyways, you kids have fun."

"where's mike?"

"we decided we would meet each other here."

lucas looked behind will, "i was not expecting eddie munson."

will turned around and saw eddie walking in with a few people, including dustin.

"are we gonna stand around and gawk at them or dance?" will and lucas followed max to where people were dancing.

they were dancing for a couple songs. will suddenly felt hands wrap around him so he quickly turned around to shove the person off, "oh, it's you."

mike had a goofy smile on his face, "oh no, me."

will hugged him, "i was scared you weren't gonna show up."

mike hugged him back, "sorry, my mom kept taking pictures."

max and lucas walked away to give them some space.

"it's fine."

when montero (call me by your name) by lil nas x started to play, will and mike looked at each other with an amused look.

everyone in the crowd either cheered or booed.

"i didn't think this song would be allowed."

during the pre-chorus, the song suddenly changed and again, people either cheered or booed.

"um, do you want to go get drinks?" mike asked.

"sure."

they both walked over to the table and each got a cup of fruit punch.

after finishing their drinks, they threw their cups away and went back to dance. they just simply stepped to the beat.

"i honestly don't know how to dance."

will laughed, "same."

after talking to different people like dustin, max, lucas, james, etc. and awkwardly dancing, a slow song started to play.

will put his hands on mike's shoulders and mike put his hands on will's waist. "at least this time i won't fall."

a teacher saw a couple of students not doing school-appropriate things, "no bending over beyond 45 degrees!"

will and mike giggled and continued slow dancing. when the song was close to ending, will asked, "can we kiss?"

"yeah," they leaned in and their lips touched for a few moments. when they pulled away, they noticed that the same teacher who yelled about bending over was gawking at them.

"do you wanna go on a date with me at the skating rink next friday?"

"again?" will asked.

"what? i still need to learn how to skate backwards."

"oh, you are definitely not ready for that but i'd love to go on a date with you."

they looked at each other with heart eyes and then heard the sound of a picture being taken. will looked to his right and saw a phone in max's hand, "seriously?"

a/n: i never thought i'd actually finish this fanfic bc i abandoned it for almost a year. there are things i regret doing in this story (like james x troy 😭😭, making it modern etc) but thank you everyone for reading.
