31 - bonus chapter

mike and will were lying on the field at their school along with max, lucas, and dustin.

dustin rolled his eyes, "guys, are you even listening?"

"we just finished our junior year and you're still trying to promote your hellfire club?" lucas said, clearly annoyed.

"whatever, it's not like you guys would be able to learn how to play D&D anyway."

lucas sat up, "are you calling us stupid?"

"can we just lay here peacefully in the sun and be happy that it's summer now?" will asked.

dustin got up and dusted himself, "i'm done being the fifth wheel. i'm going home to talk to my girlfriend."

"girlfriend?" the four of them asked in unison.

"yes, girlfriend. she's the perfect girl. anyways, bye." dustin waved as he walked away.

"there's no way he has a girlfriend."

will hit mike, "don't be mean."

mike looked over at will, "sorry."

will smiled and gave him a peck on the lips.

it was getting windy so they didn't notice when james jogged over. "hey besties!"

mike quickly grasped will, "holy fuck, you scared me."

will giggled, "you got so scared."

"shut up."

james sat down near them, "so, are we going to the arcade now or what?"

max sat up, "we should go. it's getting kinda hot out here."

will spread his arms and legs out, "but the sun feels nice."

"you two lovebirds can stay here. i'm sweating so much, it's actually gross," max grabbed her bag and walked away.

lucas looked between his friends and his girlfriend, "i'm gonna... go. see you guys there." lucas hurriedly followed max.

now, it was just will, mike, and james.

will and mike were cuddling on the ground which made james question how they could be so comfortable when the sun was blazing.

they weren't talking which made james feel awkward being the third wheel so he tried to make conversation, "so, what you guys doing this summer?"

they looked over at james, "um, i think mike's family and mine are going to california together some time this month."

james jokingly scoffed, "and when were you guys gonna tell me about this?"

the two boys looked at each other then back over at james and shrugged.

"what great friends you are."

"don't feel bad. we didn't tell lucas or max either."

james chuckled, "even better."

"whatever, let's just go to the arcade now."

the three of them arrived a little later than max and lucas did.

they all parted ways with their money and will ran into felix.

"oh, hey byers." felix grinned. will went to walk past him but felix shoved him back. "where do you think you're going?"

mike was walking over, counting the change in his hand. "hey, will. do you-" mike looked up at felix.

felix and mike stared each other down until felix walked away.

mike flexed his arms, "my bad boys came in handy."

"you literally didn't do anything."

"exactly! see, you'll understand one day when you get muscles."

"i beat you in a game of arm wrestling last week."

"well i-i was just tryna play fair."

"you're a terrible liar, mike."

"well i'm your terrible liar," mike backtracked when he saw will's annoyed expression, "no? okay, never mind."

later on, lucas was trying to beat max's high score on dig dug. the four of them watched in amusement. someone came up behind them, "oh dig dug."

james crossed his arms, "aren't you supposed to be at home talking to your 'girlfriend?'"

"suzie is real! you're just jealous because you don't have a girlfriend." everyone in the group went quiet. "why did everyone get quiet?"

"i'm gay, dustin."

dustin's mouth turned into a shape of an o, "my bad, my bad."

"oh, so i'm guessing maxine is madmax," everyone looked over at felix.

"and what about it?"

"just didn't think a girl could get the highest score," felix smirked, waiting for an angry response.

max just pushed lucas aside and played dig dug, ignoring felix.

"are you just gonna stand there like an idiot?" will asked.

"watch it, byers."

will smiled, "guess 'puke boy' got old?"

felix took a step towards will but mike shielded him, "just fuck off. you obviously have some issues inside."

felix laughed, "are you implying that i'm gay? 'cause i'm definitely not."

"then why do you keep trying to get close to my boyfriend?"

felix muttered something incoherent and walked away.

"tip: if someone is bothering you, accuse them of being gay."

james gave dustin a weird look, "accuse?"

"you know what i mean."

"no, i actually don't know what you mean," the two playfully argued.

will stepped in between them, "i'm sensing some sexual tension."

max diverted her attention to will, "william byers! that's the nastiest thing you have ever said."

"it was just a joke."

mike wrapped his arm around will, "yeah, but it's weird when you make those kinds of jokes."

will rolled his eyes, "whatever."

"wanna go find a game to play together?"

"sure."
