Once again Randy had gone to her most favorite place to be in the entire, terribly boring world. Although Felix was a bit of a hassle, she couldn't help but wish he would be there again. She had to admit it, but she enjoyed his company.

So she sat at the museum steps and relished the sweet sunlight washing over her face and continued reading 'The Secret History'. An hour passed but her friend was nowhere to be found. She stopped mid-thought. The last time she made a friend she actually liked to be around was....

Actually, she couldn't remember.

Randy enjoyed isolation and quiet and usually disliked being around others, but Felix was interesting to her. She could tolerate his rambling and irritating humor which was something completely new to her. Most of the time, her temper is off the charts and 'tolerate' was a word missing from her dictionary.

She supposed Felix might have added it there.

Lost in thought, she gazed around where she was sitting and thought about the book she was reading. She thought about its main characters and how in-depth all of them were. About how beauty was terrifying and how nothing is quite as it seems.

She jerks back at a sharp poke at her back and hits whoever touched her with her book.

"Ouch! It's only me, cowgirl", says a familiar voice from behind.

"Why'd you do that?! Couldn't you have just called my name out or something?", she said irritably.

"Well, where's the fun in that?", he replied, crossing his arms.

She rolled her eyes and took back what she thought about tolerating him.

"Oh come on, don't ignore me all over again. It's not easy being the calm and composed friend I am."

She turned towards the other direction and sat with her back to him.

He frowned.

With the corner of her eye, she saw his weird upside down smirk. It was strange, to see something like that on his mostly cheery face.

"I know how attractive my face is, you don't have to keep looking at me to remind me, you know", he laughs.

She raised her eyebrows sarcastically at him.

"You either look like a moldy vanilla cookie or a golden retriever, Felix."

Felix pouted and stuck his lower lip out like a toddler and Randy actually laughed. She barely smiled, let alone laughed but she loved every moment of the senseless joy erupting from her mouth like never before.

She supposed that's what a friend was, someone who could succeed in making you laugh.

"So, after you've ceased to cackle like a witch from Macbeth, tell me your favorite character from 'The Secret History'."

"Hmm, all of them are very messed up but, hey, Francis is pretty cool."

"Forgive me, for all the things I did but mostly for the ones that I did not."

"That actually hit pretty hard when I first read it."

"Don't worry, Randy. I hereby forbid you from dying without doing everything you want to", he grinned.

"Oh, woe is me, woe is me. That means I can't die without murdering my school principal."

Both of them erupt into raucous laughter, basking in the glorious warmth provided by both the sun and each other's company.
