Bucky is very much giving Raymond Holt vibes in parts of this chapter. If you're looking for a face claim for Nora's mom, I was kind of picturing Dianne Wiest, so if you need a visual, go with that, and if you don't know who she is, you can google her - also watch some of her films! She's great!

There's some stuff that I just made up about Steve. Don't hassle me about it, I'm just writing for character development purposes. Please remember to vote and comment!! <3

Bucky gets up at 6:00am to go for a run while Nora is still asleep, bundled in the blankets like the sweetest, softest thing he's ever seen in his life. He almost wants to bend down and kiss her before he heads out, but he doesn't. Instead, he just stands there, staring at her as she breathes softly, her eyes closed, and a gentle smile on her face. She's so pretty, even with her face scrunched up against the pillow and her hair covering part of her face. He wants to reach out and brush it away just so he can get a good look at her - maybe push his fingers through her hair the way she does for him when he has a nightmare.

And then he realizes he's been staring for way too long. Bucky shakes his head and winces as he walks toward the door and puts his running shoes on, zipping his black hoodie up and popping in his earbuds.

What the hell are you trying to do, give her a heart attack when she wakes up?

As he's leaving the apartment, Sam texts him.

[Sammy]: Kate and I are going for a run, you wanna come?

You both read my mind. Where?

[Sammy]: We're coming up on your place. Gonna run in a random direction until Kate wants to get a donut and then we stop.

Bucky chuckles softly. He likes running with Kate. She goes exactly as far as she needs to and then she stops when she gets hungry. The handful of times that they've run together, she always stops at the best cafes and makes Bucky try pieces of the donuts she buys. They're amazing.

He'd like to get to know Kate a little better, and he's trying. She gets along with Parker the best. They're around the same age, they have the same interests, and they're both huge dorks— that's Bucky's professional assessment, at least.

Says the guy who owns four special edition copies of The Hobbit.

She's a good kid. She's smart as hell, practical, and she's a damn good shooter. Bucky was trained as a sniper and he couldn't even make some of the shots that she can make. She's got a gift, and as much as she doesn't like parts of what it means to be a hero, she takes it all in stride. Bucky can tell that Kate looks up to him and Sam, but Bucky has never thought that he was a very good example to look up to. Who the hell would want to admire a former assassin who caused nothing but chaos?

Kate Bishop, apparently.

Sounds good.

Bucky locks the door and sends Nora a quick text.
