~5 years later~
"Dain where are you," you muttered to yourself as you played around with sweet flower as the wind blew your hair.
Listening to the soft breeze blowing at you, you laid your head on the grass to admire the light blue sky littered with small blotches of clouds. As you stared, your straight face turned melancholy with a pitiful smile as you ironically saw a sword shaped cloud that reminded you of the knight that you had fallen for.
"Still can't stop thinking about him?" Lumine, the blonde haired traveler that you had come to know asked you while walking towards you and sitting down beside you.
"No," you sighed. "My time for finding him is almost up yet here I am no closer to knowing anything about him since I started. The only thing that I know is that you've seen him before. I don't know if I should be grateful that he's alive or frustrated that he's out there yet not even within my grasp. Does he even remember me?"
You continued to ramble to Lumine who sat there quietly so that you could let out the frustrations she knew you were holding in for quite some time. As you continued with your venting, she thought back when she had first met you.
~~~~~
"Be careful Lumine," Paimon shouted, nervously flitting around as she watched her companion battle 3 ruin guards that had ambushed her.
Slashing his sword upwards, Lumine barely managed to scratch her opponent due to the tough iron armor. Backing away instinctively, she was able to dodge the powerful attack of the ruin guard as it slammed its arms on the ground causing a dust cloud to form. Biting her lip, the young traveler racked her brain to figure out a solution to the predicament as she dodged the many attacks of the ruin guards surrounding him.
"Duck," she had suddenly heard a shout.
Ducking as the voice had commanded, she vaguely heard an explosion as she hugged his knees with no clue as to what was going on. Poking her head up, she stared at your figure as she started to come back to her senses. Quickly picking up her sword, she jumped up utilizing the power of anemo to boost herself up. Stabbing her sword into the vulnerable place where the machines core was, she was able to finally kill it.
At the same time, you had swiftly run up another ruin guards arm that had slammed the ground and gracefully flipped before stabbing your two swords into the core. Jumping down from the ruin guards head as it fell, you flipped your hair to the side as it was getting in your face before turning towards the last enemy. Emitting powerful amounts of bloodlust, you pushed your dominant leg into the ground before pushing yourself forward at a speed unattainable to most. Utilizing your speed, you built up power in your arms and landed on one of the shoulders of the guard. Just as fast as you had landed, you took advantage of the split second of the machine not doing anything and stabbed it just like you had done to the other one.
Just as expected, it fell before disappearing into particles as you gently landed on the ground, a complete 360 from your earlier approach of fighting.
"Thanks so much," Lumine had smiled tiredly as she held out her hand to shake yours.
"No problem," you chuckled as you took his hand. "You should to rest for a bit. You don't have to worry about any enemies. I'll keep watch for you so just relax since you look really bad and worn out."
"Thanks for those blunt words," Lumine scoffed before cringing from the aching exhaustion as a result of the battle. "Also thanks for-"
Suddenly, the blonde girl fell into your arms as the adrenaline that had rushed through her had finally left hersystem.
~~~~~
Chuckling to herself, Lumine remembered just how bad of an impression she had made to you when you had first met her. Although it was a memorable moment, she couldn't help but feel that she would be forever embarrassed about that moment.
"What's so funny?" You wondered as you turned your focus towards Lumine who had moved your head over her legs so that you would be more comfortable.
Looking down at you, Lumine gave a playfully sly smile, "Secret."
"And now you're keeping secrets from me," you sarcastically rolled your eyes before letting your body relax after the long day you had of completing commissions.
Ever since you had woken up, you had become an adventurer as a means of living and to your satisfaction, it fit you well. It was especially far more fun than ruling. You enjoyed the pure adrenaline rush as you fought monsters and the continuous tactics that you had to employ at the moment made you feel pride in your abilities.
Summoning your sword, you admired the beautiful craftsmanship of the shining blade itself. Deadly but beautiful just like you were.
"Don't mind it," Lumine placed her hands behind her back to support herself as she leaned backward.
"You know," you started to tell him your thoughts. "Sometimes I'm just thinking whether or not its worth it to try and look for him. All my hard work only for me to end up knowing close to nothing. Is he even out there? If a miracle happens and I do find him, would he even remember me? Would he even love me still?"
"Y/n," Lumine looked down at you with a sympathetic gaze.
For so long, she had watched you search for Dain and it was painful. She full well understood just how painful it was. After all, sbe had been searching for her brother and even after so long, she just barely saw glimpses of her dear twin. The two of you had bonded over your similar situations and even then, it still hurt. The feeling was like you were missing the most important part of yourself to function. It was like half your heart didn't even exist anymore.
It was truly agonizing.
