“How about we go out for a while,” Lumine stood up and held her hand out for you to hold. “It’s not good to just stay depressed like that.”
Taking up her offer, you held her hand as she pulled you up. Feeling the grass get pressed down from your weight, you smiled as you could feel the energy coursing through your veins. Although it was just a simple movement, the thought of being able to walk around and explore with Lumine to get your mind off of things made you ecstatic.
Staring at the scenery before you, you took in a deep breath to stabilize yourself mentally. Even if things didn’t seem to be working out, it was no reason to keep staying there all hopeless and lifeless. You needed to get things straight. You were given a second chance at life and even if Dain wasn’t there, you knew that he would want you to live happy.
“Before we get going how about a little spar,” you took out your blade and pointed it towards your friend, your heart thumping in excitement.
In response to your challenge, Lumine took out her own sword with a grin, “We shall.”
Taking the initiative, Lumine pushed herself forward with her dominant foot leaving dust in her wake. Sword outstretched with her elbow to her side to have easier control, she swiped her blade to your left. Side stepping, you used your own sword to parry - blade down and hilt up, you had angled your sword for Lumine’s to slide down and make her unbalanced. Unfortunately, Lumine had expected as much and placed her foot down just as she was about to trip.
With her body fully supported by her legs, she took advantage of her unique position to slash upwards. Backing away, you could feel a drop of sweat roll down your cheek as you smiled, adrenaline pumping through your veins even more. She was the only one who had made you felt this way in a long time. It was the true excitement and fulfillment of battling.
Running forward, you horizontally slashed your sword to which she blocked in the nick of time. Unfortunately, her earlier position had left her in a reckless defensive state that you could easily break apart. You hacked at her with quick and continuous strikes that she struggled to defend against. Feeling her stamina quickly run draw, Lumine clicked her tongue as she summoned a gust of wind to push you back and give her more time.
Scowling in frustration, you readjusted yourself, “That not fair. You’re using your abilities even though I don’t have any.”
“If anything it would be more disrespectful for me to not fight you with any of my abilities knowing how skilled you are, even more than me,” Lumine put her other hand on the hilt of her blade. “Let’s go.”
Smiling to yourself, you couldn’t help but feel pride. However, that pride wasn’t directed to yourself but rather Lumine who was without a doubt a friend you cherished. Not only was she truly a kind friend, she was also someone who wouldn’t hold back - both in spars and in words - unlike the people from your past who tried buttering you up by being kind and sugarcoating their speech.
Sword raised to get a better feel, you ran forward at the same time as Lumine and both of your swords clashed resulting in an echoing clahg, so powerful that one could see the dust that blew from your clash. From here on out, it was a battle of strength, stamina, but most importantly perseverance. Both of you in a stalemate of blades against each other, neither one wanted to relent and lose.
Quickly pushing your sword down in impatience, your slid your leg to gain momentum before utilizing your hilt and pushing it upwards towards Lumine’s chin. Once again, Lumine had deflected your attack but this time with a shard of geo as a makeshift shield.
The two of you continued the battle. Slash after slash and attack after attack. Parry and stab. A continuous rotation of attacking and defending till the point where the both of you were exhausted.
“Why are you so strong,” Lumine mumbled as she tried catching her breath from where she was laying.
“Same could be said for you,” you huffed while massaging your aching legs. “No matter how many times we spar, you always amaze me. Especially your special gift.”
Lumine laughed at your compliments as she started to blush in embarrassment. To not leave her alone, you started laughing as well and soon enough, the two of you were laughing from the relentless compliments given while laying on the ground in exhaustion.
“Thanks for everything Lumine,” you smiled as you earlier dilemma of feelings was forgotten thanks for the travelers' help.
“It’s nothing.”
Sighing out loud, you wished this small happiness would continue on. It was truly like a dream. Your nightmares wouldn’t haunt you. You weren’t plagued with thoughts of where your lover could be. You weren’t worried about what would happen from here on out. You didn’t need to e reminded of your failures.
Closing your eyes, you relaxed your body as your breathing softened from the rest.
“Y/n,” a voice you haven’t heard before suddenly spoke.
Opening your eyes, you saw a familiar face.
A face that you couldn’t help but break down from.
