Chapter 7.
Tobais quickly opened his eyes to a blonde girl, maybe a bit older than himself. She was sitting next to him patching his wounds with some first aid gear. She looked him in the eyes before speaking;
'I'm afraid you only have three hours to live, Mr Castro.'
His eyes went wide before she spoke again;
'Hahahah! Just messing with y'a! It's not everyday a disheveled stranger comes to sleep on your couch!'
She hit his back with tremendous force before yanking his arm up to finish bandaging it.
'I am not disheveled, and could you be a little gentler with my hand? It might be broken.'
'Relax, it's not broken. Maybe just sprained, and in my view you look a little off.'
'What do you mean by a little off?....'
'Take a look haha!'
She handed Tobias his phone and put it into camera mode. I guess the waterproof case really came into play when it needed to.
He looked at himself through the phone frozen. His lip was busted, his forehead had been bleeding open, both eyes seemed to have miniature scars around them. His nose seemed to been bleeding. Tobais then looked down to his arm, his wrist was in a tight wrap of bandages while his knuckles had been nicked by concrete.
'What happened?!'
Tobais exclaimed
'We were hoping you could tell us, but right now I have some homework to do and my mother needs to go to work so call me if you need anything.'
'Wait- what's your name?'
'Nina.'
Nina walked off up to her room. Tobais could hear her feet hit the stairs and her door shut.
His body felt paralyzed, he couldn't feel anything except for pain. Physical and mental pain. What if these people weren't as nice? What if they had just left him to bleed out on the sidewalk? Tobais kept thinking about what could've happened if these people didn't help him.
There was a sudden click at the door then an open. A short blonde with a cute brown bang falling in his face stood in the arch of the door. He looked pissed for some reason. He put down his umbrella outside and stepped in the house, setting the umbrella on its side against a coat rack.
His attention turned to tobais sitting on his couch, the wounded sight of him should've been enough to worry him but he just kept the same aggravated face. David strided over to Tobais, sitting down at the edge of a coffee table to meet him face to face.
David's hand flew to Tobais's face, his thumb grazing over his scars.
'What happened? Did someone do this to you?'
'No...'
Tobias muttered while blushing intensely.
'Good. Because I want to go first.'
Before Tobias could do anything or even make an expression David slapped him in the face. David stood up and crossed his arms yelling;
D.'You snitched on Eric after you promised me you wouldn't tell anyone! You're such a backstabber!'
Tobias was still in the process of taking in what just happened. He spoke anyway though.
T.'I'm sorry I didn't even know I said anything! The vice principal-'
D.'Don't blame this on her! This is your fault! Eric is getting interrogated by the school board now!'
T.'There are like 7 Eric's in our school! How would they know!'
D.'How should I know?!'
They paused for a moment letting the anger settle.
T.'Why would you even care? He's a dumbass anyways.'
D.'He's been my friend for longer than I can remember. How would you feel if I called your friends those names?!'
T.'I don't really have friends like that.'
D. 'Damn. No wonder you're so messed up.'
David got up to leave but Tobias grabbed his hand to prevent him from leaving.
'Im sorry.'
He said in a low tone.
'Don't tell that to me. Tell that to Eric.'
David slapped his hand back which twisted his wrist the wrong way. Tobias gave a pained look as David leaned in as if he was going to ask if he was okay. Before David could do anything he jerked back and stomped upstairs.
Tobias sat there on his couch, he knew he made a mistake. He was getting so close with David. Was it wrong that he wanted to be closer than friends with him? To want to feel his hand in his? Was the vice principal right when she said these feelings were okay? Did she know what he was feeling? Is it alright to feel this way? Is it true that nothing is wrong with him?
'Shit'
Tobias thought to himself, burying his face in his hands. He wanted to go home. He wanted these thoughts to stop digging at him.
Tobias stayed on the couch waiting for Nina to come out of her room. Apparently she can't hear anything from her room or she either didn't care that the two were fighting. He occasionally saw David come down for a pen or some school equipment from the office behind him. He kept his head down out of Tobais's gaze.
Finally after a few hours Nina came downstairs. She looked at Tobias who was rubbing on his face where David struck him.
'Hey uh do you want me to call someone?'
She asked.
'Oh yes! I'm so sorry! I got distracted. I'll call my mother-.'
'Yeah about that'
She cut him off.
'I'm going to call an ambulance just in case. You're not looking too well.'
'Im fine!'
'Move your wrist.'
...
'I rather like it here.'
Nina sighed before tossing his phone to him across the table.
After Tobias got picked up by his mother she started lecturing him in the car. How he should've called her, not went with a random stranger, called an ambulance, the normal stuff. He was too tired to do anything at this moment.
Tobais walked over to his bed finally having the reassurance he can rest. No thoughts in mind, only sleep. He didn't care that he was wearing his now dry uniform, he just wanted to pass out in a way that was good for his body, instead of the results of bleeding out.
He rested his head against his pillow slowly closing his eyes. The image of David striking him appeared abruptly in his head jolting him awake. Tobais grabbed his phone from his bag on the floor, quickly texting an apology to David.
T.Hey I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snitch on Eric it all just blurted out. Please don't stay mad at me.
T.I will apologise to Eric as soon as I can. All I ask is that you forgive me.
D. Lose my number.
Tobais set down his phone on his left side desk next to his lamp. The next thing he knew light was shining under his blinds.
