I met Mrs. Flora 3 years later when she walked into my madam's parlour. Her floral gown touched the upper part of her foot, and her voice was thick and filled with confidence. Her presence was felt in the room, for sure. She had thick legs. Every time I saw her legs, they reminded me of chicken thighs. A food I had forgotten what it tasted like but had the scent engraved in my brain.
Her red lipstick and her fair, almost white, spotless skin were something that made her even more noticeable when she entered any room. The first time I saw her, I could swear she was a giant; she was so tall, thick and elegant. And for a few seconds that day, I think I fell in love with a woman.
She laughed loudly and said outloud, "Chi, bring me cold water" every time she visited. She never drank juice or even soft drinks. just water. Maybe that was her secret to looking heavenly, I thought. Her friend teased her, " Ahn ahn, Flora. You have refused to drink anything other than water for the past three years, just because of a little health scare. " "Juice is not bad now."
"Please o, your juice is not freshly made, so I can't take it." I overheard that conversation and was worried that she doesn't take sweet things. She was so sweet and I felt she deserved it. I went to my Madam's computer and searched for how to make fresh juice.
We had a fruit extractor, so I decided to surprise Madam and Aunty Flora the next time she came to visit.
I lived with my Madam for four good years. She was the one that rescued me from the roadside. A really nice woman, but not so different from my mother. I guess she had the right not to believe me after all. I was not her child. But my mother was just a devilish gold digger. She is a devil who gave birth to a demon, which she referred to me as.
My Madam's husband was overseas. That was the one thing that made me feel so comfortable and happy there. She treated me nicely, and the one friend she had, Aunty Flora, is also a lovely woman. Aunty Flora took a liking to me and told me how much she wanted to have a daughter. And truly, I wish she was my mother instead. In fact, I disowned my mum and replaced her with my aunt Flora.
Madam's husband, Mr. Chikaeluba, was a weird man. so small, not even as big as my step-dad. very ugly and had a high-pitched voice. I found him weird the first time he came back, and I could even sense my Madam's disgust whenever they were in the same room. My Madam was so pretty, so I wondered why Kalu, as everyone called him, was her choice.
