Femi never stopped talking about the first day he saw me up until today. Even while I'm wrapped in his arms, trying to get over my nightmare. His perspective of our first time always calms me down.

He told me how Ayo barely mentioned family and never told him that he had a sister, let alone one as fine as me. He said when he walked in and saw me, to be honest, he found my whole vibe off. And I just seemed too quiet. He saw Ayo looking at him angrily, so he decided to do things to get Ayo furious. After all, no one wants their friend to look at their sister. Especially when they know all the nastiness that comes with their friend.

He said he never guessed we weren't blood related; he just knew I held a totally different personality from the people of this household. He had met Aunty Flora and he knew how not calm she was. He knew how she wasn't expressionless but very expressive. He actually told me that what made him curious was when we got a little close later and he asked me my name and I said Chidinma. He was confused. Everyone calls me Cee, and he always wondered why.

We got so close after that that I developed a new fear. The fear of losing my current life. My new brother, Femi, and the only woman that deserves to be called mum.

I remember the day I was officially adopted by Aunty Flora. At 24 years old, I was finally free of any connection I had with those monsters. I finally had a family that wanted me. My life was going smoothly. I was in my first year at university. A little late, but I could not believe it was actually a reality and not my dream. Not a day went by that I thought that this was going to happen.

My smile was wide. My mum was standing by my right hand, my brother on the left and, of course, my best friend and cheerleader, Femi, was behind Ayo, who still despised how close I was to stranger danger, Femi. He told me to see Femi as a stranger danger kind of man. That he's a Yoruba demon.

I know most Femi's are Yoruba demons, but mine isn't. He's the best gift God gave to me. Ayobami and Aunty Flora included.
