He got up slowly, in a cold sweat and feeling his heart beating so fast that he feared they could be heard by the creatures a few meters away. She walked on tiptoe, taking care not to step on anything that would emit sounds that could wake the sleeping beings. She finally caught up with the couple next to the body of the plane, which was quietly piling up belongings, not even imagining what was nearby.
"Hey! Finally came back! I found the doctor's bag!" – Temari was proud of the feat.
"Speak quietly!" - Neji whispered breathlessly approaching both of them. Shikamaru found the act strange and joined the two.
"You look pale, man! What was there?" – Shikamaru asked softly, following Neji's request.
"I saw those... things! They are sleeping right there!" He pointed in the direction. "A few meters from us... there are six of them... men and women, but... damn let's get out of here and I'll count the rest of the way!"
"It's OK!"
Temari hurried to close the suitcases in which she gathered necessary stuff. She was scared enough not to raise any more questions, at least not here in the middle of the vegetation. They left as quickly and silently as they could, carrying their luggage on their laps so they wouldn't make any more noise. No one dared say anything along the way, all they wanted was to get to the beach as soon as possible.
"Alright man, now from the beginning, what did you see?" – Shikamaru threw the bags on the floor while catching his breath.
"You found it!" Sakura approached them running. "Great! Did you find anything else useful?"
"He's seen what's attacking us." Temari dropped her bags and put her hands on her hips as if demanding an answer.
"What was Neji? Wow you're pale, let's sit there with others!" Sakura pulled him by the arm while Neji left the suitcase on the floor. They walked to where Sasuke, Naruto, Tenten and Hinata were, still unconscious. "Okay, what did you see?" – She questioned while offering him a half-empty bottle of water. Neji drank quickly and offered what was left to Temari and Shikamaru.
"I saw six of those things that attacked us! I was walking around the plane when I came across a ravine and just below a pond, which seemed to be fresh water. I started walking around looking for a way to get down and that's when I saw them... they were... inert, standing, as if they were sleeping... standing around the pond, without clothes, dirty and finished..."
"Indians?" – Tenten asked.
"No Tenten... they weren't Indians... they were shaped like humans, but... their bodies..." Neji stared at the sand as if he could review those dark images. "They didn't have genitals..."
"But you said they were men and women". – Shikamaru objected.
" And they were! The women had breasts but no nipples...the men had the physical build of an average man, but no exposed organs! They're not human! They are creatures! I don't know what's going on here, but we can't go into that forest anymore! There must be thousands of them around here... they had blood on their hands, faces and all over their bodies... dried blood and fresh blood... They had blood in their mouths, as if they had just... eaten..." - he felt a shiver ran through his body, and he wasn't the only one there who shivered at the thought of what they had devoured.
"We need to get out of here as soon as possible..." - Sasuke broke the silence. "The longer we stay, the more exposed we are! They already know where we are camped! And if we stay too long on this island, soon we'll need to go to this lagoon to get fresh water... did you find the second transmitter?"
"I found." – Shikamaru took it out of his back pocket. "But I don't know how to make it work."
"Let's wait for Ino to arrive, she and Sai will know." - Naruto suggested and everyone agreed. Silence reigned between them again, but it was soon broken when Tenten spotted some silhouettes in the distance.
