Chapter 73: Talk About It

We had gathered the dishes and taken them back into the kitchen, setting into a rhythm as we cleaned them. I would scrub them up and he would dry them and put them away. We were working on the last dish when a loud banging sounded on the front door. With a lifted brow, I turned to look in that direction, but Coyote seemed to know who it was…

“Shit…” He cursed under his breath. He took the plate that I had and dried it quickly before putting it away. “Hang on!” He yelled toward the door.

But the banging continued. I was even worried that the door might fall off of the hinges. The dogs had gathered to bark and howl in protest of the sound. I watched Coyote walk out of the kitchen, so I quickly dried my hands and followed him. His legs were much longer than mine, so I had only barely made it into the sitting room when he opened the door. And across the length of the room I saw Grimmjow, hands clenched into fists and blue eyes blazing. He looked furious. The dogs quieted down when they saw him, but some were still growling.

“I told you that I would be bringing her home later… That didn’t mean that you needed to come rampaging over here.” Coyote grumbled, stepping aside to let him in.

“Shut the fuck up.” Grimmjow grumbled back, not even looking at him as he stalked inside. His glare was set on me, and he didn’t seem at all happy. “What the hell are you doing here? And why the fuck haven’t you been answering your phone?”

I sighed… this was a familiar conversation. “I’m sorry, Grimmjow. My phone died... it’s charging now.”

He came to a stop directly in front of me. “What the fuck are you wearing?” He growled, leaning his face down into mine.

I glanced down at myself, almost having forgotten that I was wearing Coyote’s shirt. “I needed something to sleep in…” I mumbled.

“And why the hell were you sleeping here?!” He roared, so loudly that I wanted to cover my ears. His body was shaking from the anger, his fists still clenched tightly at his sides.

“Why don’t I give you two some privacy?” Coyote mumbled, stepping out of the room and disappearing somewhere in the house. He gave a sharp whistle, and his dogs followed after him.

Now that Grimmjow was sober, I was guessing that there was no more reason to be concerned for my safety… now we only needed to be worried about Grimmjow’s pride. I’d learned that he couldn’t ever seem to carry on a decent conversation if he thought that his pride was on the line…

I gave enough time for Coyote to get out of earshot before I looked up at Grimmjow, bracing myself to deal with this. “Grimmjow… are you going to keep yelling at me, or are we going to talk about what happened last night?”

He clenched his jaw… and then he forced himself to relax, his fists loosening and his towering form no longer threatening. He let out a heavy breath before speaking. “What happened last night… I wanted to talk about it last night…” He rolled his eyes, raking his hands through his wild blue hair and turning to plop down onto one of the large, fluffy sofas. “I know I fucked up… The entire ride home I kept telling Tier that I needed to talk to you… to apologize… And when we got home before you I waited… but you never got home. I wanted to fucking tell you how sorry I was… how much I love you… but you never came home!” He was starting to get upset again, glaring down at the floor. “I called… texted… and you didn’t fucking answer… I didn’t know what happened to you! So I started calling everyone. Gin said that you got a ride with Coyote but he wasn’t fucking answering his phone either… so for all I knew you were in a ditch somewhere.”

The realization that I had upset him this badly settled heavily and uncomfortably on me. “Grimmjow… I’m so sorry.” I sat down next to him, tentatively reaching out to place my hand on his leg. “I’m so sorry that I worried you… I was just so upset. I needed some time to myself…”
