Chapter 69: Ignorance is Bliss

I was an expert at hiding away my feelings. When something bothered me, I could just shove it to the back of my mind and pretend like the issue never existed. And that is exactly what I was doing in this situation. As far as I was concerned, I hadn't found a suspicious sheet of paper in Grimmjow's office. There hadn't been overwhelming information for me to sift through. This non-existent sheet of paper and pressing information was not currently tucked away into my ankle boot, rubbing at my skin in an uncomfortable way. Everything was fine. Nothing was wrong. I didn't know a thing. And there most certainly was not an embarrassing hickey on my neck. Nope. Nothing at all to worry about.

"Knock 'em dead, babe." Grimmjow murmured into my ear as he walked me back over to the stage entrance, where my bandmates were waiting for me to go back on. He kissed my ear, leaned in closer to kiss my neck, and then turned me so that he could place another kiss to my lips.

"Thanks, Grimmjow." I easily smiled up at him before rushing over to join my friends. I focused on what I was doing: joining my bandmates, going to greet the people that were waiting for us, starting the performance. These were all things that I could control. These were the things that I would acknowledge. Anything else was just a waste of headspace.

We started with our first song for this set, and I lost myself in it. I belted out the lines like I was screaming my soul out into them.

If you're listening
(Whoa oh oh oh oh oh)
Sing it back
(Whoa oh oh oh oh oh)

String from your tether unwinds, Whoa-oh
(string from your tether unwinds)
Up and outward to bind, Whoa-oh

(up and outward to bind)

Hearing the guys echo the lines behind me was invigorating. I grinned into my microphone, swaying with the music as I tapped away on my keyboard and turned to look at the amazing friends that I had on stage with me.

I was spinning free, Whoa-oh
(Whoa oh oh oh oh oh)
With a little sweet and simple numbing me

A new energy filled me, making me tingle and nearly burst with the joy that I was feeling just from being on stage and playing this song with my band. I grabbed my microphone and went closer to the audience, seeing everyone rile with the performance.

Are you listening?
(Whoa oh oh oh oh oh)
Sing it back
(Whoa oh oh oh oh oh)

So tell me what do I need, Whoa-oh
(tell me what do I need)
When words lose their meaning, Whoa-oh
(when words lose their meaning)

I sang my lines and held the microphone to the many people in front of me, hearing them echo along with the guys in the band. It was so amazing! The exhilaration had me flying so damn high. I loved this feeling.

I was spinning free
(Whoa oh oh oh oh oh)
With a little sweet and simple numbing me

Yeah, stumble 'til you crawl
(Whoa oh oh oh oh oh)
Sinking into sweet uncertainty

I spun around with the euphoria, grinning from ear to ear. The guitar rifts were playing, and the breakdown for the song was my favorite part. I danced like crazy, bouncing around the stage and just giving myself over to the sound. Everyone was getting into it. The entire club was jumping with the song, alive with energy. Renji and Shuuhei were rocking around, playing their guitars like pros as they slammed through the rifts. Chad was killing it on the drums. And Ichigo was thrumming through his bass lines. As soon as the pause came, I was singing out my lyrics again.
