Dr. Kwami is beyond shocked. He doesn't understand why she ignored him like that.

Shaking off the surprise, he follows her to the cafeteria and takes the empty seat beside her which is the only empty seat on the table. She hisses and attempts to stand up but the last of her friends who hasn't said anything since Dr. Kwami arrived stops her by holding her hand.

"Afnan at least listen to him. Stop running away from him. We'll excuse you." She sounds way more mature and reasonable than the other two girls. One look from her has the rest of the girls standing up to leave the table for Afnan and Dr. Kwami, albeit begrudgingly.

"Farida, aren't you glad to see me here? I came all the way from Abuja to see you ne fah." Afnan rolls her eyes. She's barely even paying attention to what he's saying. Instead, she's preparing a long speech that she's most definitely going to give Alice once she's done 'listening' to Dr. Kwami.

Just because she once confided in Alice and told her about the train of events that led to her being in Massachusetts doesn't mean she can tell her what to do and what not to do. It's only because of the respect she has for her, given she's older than her and is also a mother of two that makes Afnan bend and do her bidding.

The only reason Afnan even confided in her that day was because she was curious and seemed to be open minded and understanding.

That day, which was about two weeks ago, a guy from the Economics department followed Afnan and asked her out. And just because she turned him down, he attempted to lay his hand on her. If not for Alice and Gabriella, Afnan would've been beaten to a pulp that day.

And that's just one out of the millions of reasons why Alice is her favorite in the group and in the school too.

Nonetheless, she's most definitely going to give her a piece of her mind. She is her favorite friend, not her mother or older sister.

"Just leave me alone." Afnan says standing up and taking her bag with her.

Once again, Dr. Kwami is shocked. Did she find another man her in Massachusetts? Has she fallen out of love with him? Did her father's words get to her head? What exactly is wrong?

Afnan feels somehow because of how she has treated Dr. Kwami. But then again, he brought it upon himself when he rejected her idea back in Nigeria.

She continues to walk away from the cafeteria, weirdly feeling Dr. Kwami's eyes on her when a shadow blocks her path. She raises her head and her eyes widen when she realizes who it is.

Oh no!

It's the same guy from the economics department. But this time around, he brought company.

"You and your supposed friends beat me up the other day huh?" Afnan gulps, silently hoping one of her friends will notice and come to her aid.

She's not one to fight. If anything she hates violence. Right from her childhood she has been a calm child, giving up when necessary to maintain peace. Amal is the one that loves fighting, not her.

Should she just run away? But he's a man, he'll easily catch up with her.

Should she scream? What if he slaps her for screaming?

Oh God! And the floor is interlocked otherwise she'd have poured him and his three friends sand in their eyes and then run back to where her friends are.

"Hey Muslim girl! Albert is talking to you." One of the guy's friends says and she gulps.

"Eric, don't you dare talk to my crush like that." Said Albert warns before turning to Afnan who is reciting supplications in her mind, hoping Allah comes to her aid because at this point only he can save her.

"So, where should I start from? Maybe that slap that I wanted to give you should do it." Afnan closes her eyes the moment he raises his hand and waits for the pain.

Surprisingly, it doesn't come so she counts to three and opens her eyes to see Dr. Kwami holding both of Albert's hands.

"Unless you want to spend the night in jail, get away from her. And that goes to all three of you." For the first time since Afnan met Dr. Kwami, she is seeing a different side to him. She has seen his professional side, his romantic side but never his jealous or overprotective side. Man does he look and sound dangerous!

"Who do you think you are?" Dr. Kwami smirks and tilts his head to the side before throwing Albert's hands down. He pulls out his phone and dials a number.

"Good evening Sir, this is Dr. Aliyu Usman Kwami speaking." A voice that sounds awfully familiar to all of them there comes with a reply.

"Ah, our favorite valedictorian. No one has beaten your record yet. Did you remember this old man? Or is there something I can help with?"

"There are four boys right at the back of the Faculty of Social Sciences attempting to physically abuse a young lady."

"What? I'll send in security to get them right now. Thank you so much for this." Dr. Kwami smirks at the men before replying.

"It's my pleasure Mr Paul Edward." They all widen their eyes and immediately he ends the call, they are begging.

"Please no. The VC said I'll get withdrawn from school if I'm at his office again." Dr. Kwami ignores them until security comes and gets them.

Then he turns to Afnan, his features softening.

"Farida, please just listen to me." Afnan nods and they go back to the cafeteria.

"Farida, I don't know what I did. I have missed you so much. I keep calling you yet your number is switched off. I wouldn't have known you are here if not for Amal. Did I do something wrong to deserve this sort of treatment from you?" For the first time ever, Afnan is glad her sister is a blabber mouth.

"You did, but you're forgiven. I missed you." Dr. Kwami smiles happily.
