CHAPTER NINE
ASH

———

After that night on the rooftop, Ash had been thinking about Khael nonstop. That hand-holding and a tight squeeze struck Ash deep in the heart - she no longer could deny it - she liked him.

But for now, that wasn't the problem.

There was no news of what happened between Seth and Caleb until the night after. The most time she'd seen them was when they went to the bathroom or asked for food, solely on their own. They approached the table, their faces looking content and a smile remained on Seth's face when they sat.

Caleb spoke up first, vaguely explaining that everything between them was fine and there was nothing to worry about. Seth didn't seem as if he was listening, just looking at Caleb all dreamy-eyed. Caleb seemed to also give small smiles at Seth, their eyes never leaving the others.

"Speaking of which, it's Seth's birthday today," Khael spoke. "Wanna have a party here? Just between us five." Seth nodded and didn't waste a glance at Khael, his eyes still never leaving Caleb's.

"Happy birthday Seth!" Ash nearly forgot about it - surprising when she had typed it in her calendar. Seth just gave her a smile - if he did, considering he was staring at Caleb the whole time. Ash didn't want to assume what happened between them, but it's safe to say, Seth would still be happy either way.

"We can start preparing and buying stuff now," Khael suggested. "Kinda got occupied yesterday." A smile crept up Khael's face and shyly glanced at Ash. She could feel a blush creep up her face and knowing this, she turned away from him, hoping it wasn't too obvious.

"Yeah, that'd be nice of you two to do." Seth finally looked their way, their eye contact coming to an end. "Caleb and I just have some stuff to do."

"They're obviously dating," Khael remarked

"They're obviously dating," Khael remarked. It didn't take him long to get a clue - it was easier with all the looks that said 'leave' Caleb gave him when Seth wasn't looking.

They were on their way to the mall, again. Although Ash wanted to have fun like the day before, they needed to prepare for a birthday party.

"Did you know?" Khael turned to her and asked. "It was really obvious."

She nodded. "But I didn't want to assume." Khael agreed, smiling to himself. He must've been really happy for them.

"I've been watching them for a long time and I'm just glad things worked out between them."

They entered the party supply store. All kinds of decorations for different kinds of parties surrounded the story. Glancing around, she could see cone birthday hats, garlands, and numbered candles. And even then it was just a few from the hundreds of stuff.

Khael entered the store, quickly searching for some supplies - tacky glasses that had the words 'it's my birthday!' in mixtures of colors that were atrocious spelled across the rim and the bridge of the glasses and hot pink garlands that were probably itchy on the skin - had already occupied his hand. Ash decided to explore the store.
