MAY 26TH 1982
When I returned to school, I noticed that Robin was right. He was hanging out with Nancy and completely ignoring me. As we were walking down the corridor, we made eye contact for a slight second but then he looked away. I was confused. I thought we made friends so I wonder why he was around Nancy all the time. We got to Mr Hauser's class and I sat down. I turned around in my seat and started to talk to Robin, not noticing Steve walking in and sitting down. When Mr Hauser got all our attentions, I turned back around and saw Harrington staring me but quickly looking away. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion but shrugged it off. We had been told to work in pairs for the task we were set but me and Steve had been sat in silence for 5 minutes. "So-" "Look, I really do not want to talk to you." He interrupted. "What is your issue? I've done nothing to you." I scoffed. I bet Nancy fed him some fake rumours that he believed. I'm still annoyed that the rumours about Robin liking girls is going around. She deserve's better than this. Steve never answered my question and we sat in silence for the rest if the lesson... It was probably the most awkward situation I've been in.

That night, there was a knock at my door. My mom as at work so I got up of the sofa and unlocked it. I was expecting it to be Robin but it was someone I thought would never show up here again. "I just came here for my things. I realised they were still at yours." Nancy said, with her arms crossed. I rolled my eyes. "Wait here." I went to my room and started grabbing everything that was hers and shoving it into a bag. I came across the necklace Steve got me and came up with a great idea. I smirk grew on my face as I took it and finished packing up her things. I went back to the door and handed her them and then held out the necklace box. "Steve told me to give you this. He said he was too shy to give it to you in person." I lied. I kept a blank expression on my face and she took it off me. "Why did he give it to you?" She asked to which I shrugged. "God knows. Don't ask me." I replied, slamming the door in her face. I sat back down on the sofa and Dustin came out his room. "Was that Steve?" He asked. I shook my head and he sat next to me. "I'm afraid he'll never be coming here again." I whispered, giving him a hug. "Oh.. I see." He responded. I could feel his heart break. Dustin had always wanted an older brother and Steve was the closest he was going to get to one. I put on his favourite show and messed around with his hair. He was telling me all about what he's learnt at school and about DnD.

Robin and I walked into school, wondering how Steve would react to seeing Nancy wearing the necklace. However, we had to confirm it first. We walked into our Math class, passed Nancy and saw the necklace. We giggled to eachother and we sat in our seats. Steve sat next to me and immediately asked about it. "Why did you give Nancy the necklace I bought you and say I told you to give it to her?" He had a look of bewilderment on his face and I furrowed my eyebrows. "I didn't? It's still at home." I responded, grabbing my pen out my bag. "If that's true, come in tomorrow wearing it." He whispered. I had it all thought through. I obviously wouldn't come to school wearing it because Nancy has it and I'll tell Steve she must have stole it when getting her things from my house. I wasn't jealous that she was hanging out with him, I just wanted pay back for what she's been saying about me and Robin. Speaking of which, I turned around to face her and put my thumb up. A smirk grew on her face and I turned to face the front.

I sat down in Mrs Campbell's class and pulled out my pencil. Steve sat next to me and looked down at my neck, not seeing the necklace. "So you did give it to her, huh?" He sighed. I looked at him and shook my head. "No.. I went to put it on last night but it was missing out of my drawer. I think Nancy may have stolen it when she got her things from my house." I leant on my hand and faced the front. "Why don't you do something about it?" He asked. I furrowed my eyebrows. "Because last time, I ended up expelled." He chuckled and faced the front.

At lunch, I saw Nancy walking towards me and Robin so I nudged her to let her know. Nancy slammed the necklace down on the table. "You told Steve that I stole the necklace?? How pathetic are you?" She yelled. I pulled a shocked face. "You came to get your things and the next thing I know, you're wearing the necklace and it's missing out my drawer!" I shouted back. She scoffed and crossed her arms. "Listen here, Evelyn. Steve doesn't like you. So stop being so insecure and let him talk to who he wants without getting jealous." She retorted. I clenched my teeth together. I hate it when people call my insecure. She let out a small laugh and walked off with Barb. That is until Robin stood up and threw her food at Nancy. "You've got something in your hair.." She sat back down, holding in her laugh. Nancy let out a small scream and stormed off. We high fived and I put the necklace on, smiling at Steve who was watching us the whole time. I seemed to have forgotten it was our last day and then it was the Summer holiday so I've got to say... This was the best last day ever.

AUGUST 2ND 1982
It was the first day back at school and we were officially in 9th grade. This may be the chance to get away from Steve. There's no possible way he's still in a lower class, I thought. I waited for Robin by the entrance for what seemed like an eternity. Steve came up to me instead and pointed at my necklace. "You're still wearing it.." He smiled. "Yeah, it feels illegal to mix silver and gold jewellery but it's cute." I replied. His smile made me smile and that's when I realised I may like him... Or I'm just overthinking it. "Are you still in a lower grade?" I asked. He let out a loud sigh and nodded, disappointed in himself. "I could always help you if you want." I responded. "No! If you help, then I can't sit next to you every day... every lesson." He laughed. I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "Yeah because you love my company." I laughed and he shrugged. "You're definitely better to talk to than Carol and Tommy." Just then, they shouted him over. He turned around to look at them and then back at me. "I'll see you in class, Adam." He waved and walked off. Robin walked up behind me and started asking way too many questions.

We walked into Mr Hauser's and Robin and I rushed to sit next to each other. We noticed that the room had been rearranged so it was three people per table. Why would anyone sit next to me and Robin anyway? I thought. We were deep in conversation when I heard someone pull the chair out next to me. I looked over and Steve was smirking as he sat down. "Why don't you sit with Carol and Tommy?" I asked. He looked around. "Do you see them in this class?" He laughed. "They were able to catch up so they're in their correct classes." He leant back in his chair and folded his arms. "Does that mean I'm stuck with you for another year?" I asked, sulking. He nodded and Robin leant over, whispering in my ear. "You're flirting with him." I rolled my eyes and shook my head. "No I'm not! Nothing I said could be classed as flirting." I whispered back. She raised her eyebrows, "Sureee." She sat back in her chair properly and Mr Hauser started to teach the class. I looked over at Nancy who was staring daggers at me. I pulled a smug look and she rolled her eyes, scoffing and facing the front.

For the rest of the day, Steve willingly sat next to me which annoyed Nancy. I don't understand him. He ignored me for the last few days and now he's acting like my friend again. I bet he realised I'm fun to talk to.
