Jungwon got up from his seat, "I sincerely apologize."
Jungwon got to know Jay's friends pretty well the past week. He was skeptical at first, especially since Jay's friends were people he never thought he could befriend. Beside them being jocks, they were also popular , so stereotypically they were considered cocky, snobby rich kids who ran the school. That's what Jungwon had thought too before he actually got to know them. When he had first met Jake and Sunghoon at his first house party, he didn't know what to expect of them, but they ended up being super friendly and genuine towards him. They made sure Jungwon felt less overwhelmed and comfortable, which definitely surprised him. And— a few days ago, when Jungwon had started sitting with Jay and his friends for lunch at school, he had met a boy named Heeseung— the last one to be introduced to him from their friend group. Heeseung was humorous and treated Jungwon like a friend from the get-go. So, the moral of the story for Jungwon is that not all jocks are annoying, cocky assholes. Only most of them.
So, there he was, awkwardly standing in front of Jay's friends, apologizing for the misunderstanding.
"For?" Heeseung asked, a confused look on his face.
Jake took a sip of his water, "I accept your apology— unless you killed someone then I'm sorry but no."
"You don't even know what the apology is for," Sunghoon said, "What happened?"
"I like him, it doesn't matter," Jake paused for a moment, "Wonie, you didn't like drunkily pee on my stuff or anything right?"
A frown formed on Jungwon's face, "Why— would I do that?"
Jake shrugged, "It happens."
Sunghoon shook his head. "Jake, I never expect you to say anything reasonable."
Heeseung patted the seat next to him, "Why are you sorry?"
Jungwon sat back down, "Well, I thought you guys were going to be absolute garbage people but it turns out you aren't."
Heeseung squinted his eyes, "That's— why?"
"That's the nicest thing you've said to us so far," Jake said, "You are forgiven."
"It's okay." Sunghoon said, nodding his head.
"What are you guys talking about?" Jay sat down next to Jungwon, breathing heavily like he just ran a mile in a minute.
"Talking shit about you." Heeseung said jokingly, flicking a piece of fruit at him.
"You're such a child." Jay said to Heeseung and looked over at Jungwon, a soft smile appearing on his face.
Jay set his hand down next to Jungwon's on the bench and moved it closer. He traced small circles on Jungwon's pinky with his.
"And what about it?" Heeseung mocked, chuckling.
"Did coach make you run laps again?" Sunghoon asked, taking a bite of his sandwich.
"Yeah," Jay let out a sigh, "Unfortunately."
"It's always you, too." Jake added, shaking his head.
"It's probably because I'm new to the team," Jay paused for a moment, "It's fine."
Heeseung looked at Jay. "That would piss me off."
"It's not like I could do anything about it, you guys know that." Jay said, moving his hand away and grabbing for his phone.
"True," Jake said, "We don't want you off the team, so."
Jungwon looked over at Jay and bit the inside of his cheek. Jungwon hadn't seen Jay this stressed and tense before. "You okay?"
