this chapter's song:
rewrite the stars zac efron & zendaya

Jungwon looked up, the pupils of his eyes reflecting the stars that shined bright in the sky above him. It was a beautiful, breezy night. Especially beautiful because Jungwon could feel that winter was coming.

The coldness of the air lingering on the tip of his nose, which was turning a bright pink as he made his hands into tight fists to stop them from freezing.

Jungwon found joy in winter. Everything from the cold smell in the air to the little hats with pompoms people wore out. Although it was cold, winter felt warm and hopeful.

Christmas music starting to be played at the malls and people were rushing to get gifts for their family and friends, it was the most giving and loving season.

For many people, seasonal depression came with winter like a buy one get one free deal. That when it became cold and everything turned white outside, it felt empty for them.

But for Jungwon, it was different.

It was the one season he felt the least lonely.

Jungwon felt arms wrap around his waist and bit back a smile, knowing who those hands belonged to, "You didn't have to wait out here for me." Jay said, planting a soft kiss onto Jungwon's cheek, "I live across the street from you, you know."

"You were taking a while."

"Or maybe you just can't stand being away from me for even a second." Jay said, raising his eyebrows and locking eyes with him.

Jungwon huffed out a scoff before lightly shoving him, "Yeah, right."

"Come here." Jay mumbled out, holding him in his arms tighter than before.

Jungwon smiled into Jay's chest and wrapped his arms around him, watching as the older boy's smile widened as he looked up at the stars.

"What do you have planned for tonight?"

"Aren't you eager to know," Jungwon said, "Don't worry I'm not going to take you to go see a rock or anything lame like that."

Jay let out a joking scoff, "Oh, thank god."

Jungwon's lips turned upward into a smile, "But I did want to lay in the grass and watch the stars with you, especially since they're so prominent tonight," He looked up to see Jay raise his eyebrows, "Or is that lame?"

He was probably the last person on planet earth who knew what it took to be a romantic. Romance? Dead.

But the last time Jungwon got to appreciate twinkling stars in a beautiful night sky was with his father. And he remembered his father telling him that there is nothing more special than spending time underneath a sparkling dark sky with someone you love.

He was still getting used to love. Never in a million years did he expect to find a friend and lover in one. To fall so hard for someone he had just met. And Jungwon didn't necessarily believe in fate but Jay might've changed his mind.

There was still so much to learn on his part, because Jungwon was good at following rules, but there were no set rules on how to be in love.
