NOCTURNAL - STUBBORN
"Anak, congratulations on your successful photoshoot."
"Thanks."
I'm currently having a breakfast here at the dining table with my Mom.
It's six in the morning and I still have time to enjoy my breakfast meal before going to school.
Recently, Mom's been very busy with her office work. This is the first time we've had breakfast together after what happened that night in the forest.
I still couldn't forget how she got mad at me for no valid reason. She just wants to scold me whenever she sees fit and I hated it. I'm only holding back so I won't end up hating her and her ways of disciplining me. It's just so unacceptable seeing her bossing me around when she doesn't even know what's going on with my life. And I don't even know what's going on with her life. We're both hopeless to one another.
"Uh, try this waffle that I made. It's delicious." She handed me the plate full of waffles.
I poked one using a fork and took a small bite. It's delicious but not as delicious as Ate Ria's waffles.
"It's good. By the way, why are you the one who cooked our breakfast today?" I creased my eyebrow and looked at her.
She suddenly dropped the spoon and fork that she was holding. Bullets of sweat were now visible on her face that was perfectly covered with makeup.
I can tell that she wanted to say something important to me. Was it about her relationship with Mr. Martinez? There's a possibility, but it's better if she keeps quiet about it for now. I don't want to ruin my mood today.
"D-Do I not have the right to cook breakfast for my own d-daughter?" She stuttered.
Does she really have to be nervous just by saying that? Well, it only shows that she's not comfortable doing household chores that's supposed to be her job in the first place.
"You have, but it's unusual for you to do that and besides, that's Ate Ria's job. That's one of the reasons why you hired her, am I right?" And she cooks better than you.
She stared back at me with an amused expression written all over her face. I can't explain what she's thinking right now. Is she mad at me because of what I said? I'm just telling the truth.
"Yes, you're right. However, I've been meaning to do the things that I haven't done before when we're still staying at your Dad's house." She awkwardly said.
I cleared my throat and continue to chew the waffle that was inside of my mouth for a while now.
I watched how her fingers gently tapped the table. They're not making any sounds but it's obviously implying that she's feeling anxious.
I forcefully put my utensils down on the table.
"Stop beating around the bush and spill the beans already." I impatiently said. She flinched.
I can't eat my breakfast properly if she continues to act so restless in front of me. Can't she just be normal in front of her own daughter? That's why we can't seem to understand each other because she's purposely putting some distance between us. Am I just an extra baggage for her?
"Brooke... you know my boss right?" I nodded my head.
He literally came to our house without any notice.
"He invited us to his birthday party this coming Saturday. Just the four us. Him, Devon, me, and you." I can't believe she said that in a straight face.
