CHAPTER 34

NOCTURNAL – THE GINGERHEAD LAD

The afternoon classes are finally over. Camille and I are currently here at Vera’s house or should I say mansion.

“Sit wherever you like guys. I’ll go change my clothes first.” Vera said and quickly ran upstairs.

Their house is huge and elegant. The walls were made out of marble and there’s a grand piano near the giant grandfather clock. A single sofa at the living room can fit up to three person. Their flat screen TV is two times bigger than what we have back home. That’s how rich her family is.

I wonder what her parents' jobs are? Could be business or plantation since it's one of the common sources of income here in the province. Who knows, right? One thing is for sure, they have exceeded the word rich itself.

Camille sat at the single sofa while I chose to seat at the long one. This place is too intimidating.

I’m still wearing my school uniform and I feel sticky ‘cause I spent too much time under the sun. The stickiness is killing me.

Before the class has dismissed, Alex’s Dad brought him back home. I think Aiden called him so that his twin brother could rest well.

I opened my bag and took my phone out. I texted Mom earlier saying that I’ll be back home later before six in the evening.

The three of us had planned on brainstorming about our own research title. I already have one in mind but I still need to hear their ideas so that we can come up with a better one.

I took a glance at Camille and she was surprisingly quiet and behave. This is very unusual. I supposed it was because we’re here at the house of the girl who likes her?

“Brooke, anong oras tayo uuwi?” She asked, feeling uneasy.

I can tell that she’s not comfortable by being here, but we can’t do anything. This is the perfect place to think of a title for our research.

“Before 6. It’s already 5 in the afternoon. We still have 1 hour left.” I responded.

She nodded while roaming her eyes around the interior of the house. I wanted to ease her discomfort but I guess it’ll only lead her asking permission to go home early. I don’t want to be alone here with Vera. That would be awkward for us.

“Vlad, change your clothes first. The jigsaw puzzles can wait.” I heard her voice from upstairs.

Was that her little brother? I heard that she has a sibling, but I didn't know if it’s a boy or a girl.

Her footsteps began to echo all over the house. The silence is hurting my ear. Good thing she’s already here.

“Sorry to keep you guys waiting.” She stated as soon as she went to our direction.

She’s wearing a plain white shirt and a black jersery short.

“It’s okay.” I was the one who responded.

I looked at her and then to Camille who couldn't even look Vera in the eyes. I got a feeling that this’ll gonna be a long hour for us.

“Want something to drink? Juice? Anything? Brooke?” She pointed me as if waiting for my reply.

I don’t know why she’s giving me her attention. She should’ve asked Camille and not me because I'm fine with anything.

“I’m fine with water. How about you Camille?” I asked and turned to her. She was fidgeting her fingers which means that she’s uncomfortable with the situation.
