NOCTURNAL - HIS TRAGIC PAST
"W-What are you doing here, A-Aiden?"
Why am I shaking so badly? Is it because of the chilly air blowing against me? Or is it because I wasn't expecting to see him looking like he got abandoned by his own family?
"Hey, Brooke. I'm so sorry to disturb you but could you please let me stay in your house tonight?"
"What?" Did I hear him right?
I quickly stepped backwards when he suddenly moves forward to the gate. "You want to spend the night here? What are you even saying? Everyone's looking everywhere for you, Aiden. Go home."
I didn't mean to be rude but I can't tolerate his selfishness when his family are now worried where he is and what he's doing with his life.
"I can't." He replied.
Tinitigan ko siya nang mariin, hindi pa rin makapaniwalang nagmamakaawa siyang tumuloy sa bahay namin ngayong gabi gayong mayroon naman silang malaking mansion na kayang patirahin ang benteng katao.
"Why not?"
"You wouldn't understand." I heard him sighed. What a hardheaded guy. I bit the lower side of my lip and marched my way to him. The gates are closed so I have no choice but to open it and pulled him inside.
"Then make me." That took him by surprise but I ignored his reaction and dragged him inside the house. I just really need an explanation as to why he's acting like a contemptible fool towards his family.
"Brooke, wai-"
We went inside and the first thing I noticed was Aliah peacefully sleeping together with my Momo on the couch. That was fast? I left them just for a minute but she really was tired and sleepy.
"Is that Evangeline's sister?" I heard Aiden asked me. I nodded my head and pointed the single-seater sofa.
"Sit there and wait for me."
"O-okay."
I went near Aliah but stopped midway when I realized that it's a bad ideas to wake someone up when they are sleeping soundly. I saw Aiden staring at me through my peripheral vision.
"Quit staring at me and help me with her. I need to bring her to my room." It wasn't an order, it was a request.
"Huh? Y-Yeah, sure. Okay, I'll help you." He quickly responded.
I carefully moved Momo on the other side of the couch while Aiden is trying his best to carry Aliah without waking her up. He then looked at me so I guided him to the stairs.
"I'm sorry. I couldn't carry her. Baka malaglag ko kasi siya." I took a glance at him and he was following me from behind. Aliah is comfortably sleeping in his arms and I'm glad she didn't wake up.
"It's okay. She's light as a feather. Bakit nga pala siya nandito sa inyo?" He asked.
"Her Dad and Evangeline went to Manila to deal with personal matters. She'll only stay here for three days." Casually telling him about the reason why Aliah's Dad and older sister went to Manila is like invading their privacy. I don't have the right to mention something regarding Evangeline's mental health issues.
"Oh. I didn't know that you were close with their family. Aliah is quite aloof with other kids but she's friends with Vera's little brother— Vladimir. Do you know him?" He added.
We're already here at the second floor and I'm still guiding him to my room.
"Yeah. I do know that kid. I met him when Camille and I went to Vera's house to work with our research title." That's all I could respond because there's really nothing to say about Vladimir whom I barely know, but that boy's alright.
