Relapse In Time

Steve stares at thanos, before looking at the team who are stood behind him in defeat, "on your left..." sams voice comes through the radio. Steve looks around in confusion as the line goes fuzzy, however, the wizzing of a gold portal opens up and out steps T'challa in his uniform, followed by Ayo and Shuri by his sides. Sam flies through above them as dozens of portals open up around them. Veda looks around, "bucky?" She whispers as she sees him step out of a portal, Clint grabs her hand to stop her from running to him, "not yet, V. We're not done here..." he sighs. Veda nods, although she can barely contain her excitement, a happy tear rolls down her cheek.

Steve smiles as hundreds of warriors and heroes join his side, "avengers... assemble!" He announces. T'challa looks around, and yells as he begins the stampede. Everyone runs towards thanos and his army, praying they outnumber him. Veda sticks with Clint and Bruce, Rhodey and Scott behind them as Scott transforms into a giant. The war begins as everyone rushes to defeat the aliens. The monsters begin dropping, way too weak to fight these soldiers, until time comes to a stand still. A relapse in time.

Veda looks up to see an alien holding a huge metal beam above her body, although he stops, when his body begins to disintegrate. Silence begins to cast over their bodies, until Veda screams when the metal beam lands on her legs, trapping her down. She groans and bites down onto her arm, trying to rid the pain away.

Bucky on the other hand is stood next to Sam watching the aliens disintegrate, and watching Tony stark ahead as he lays against a rock, lifeless. Peter Parker rushes over to him, as does pepper, the scene doesn't look too good. Bucky looks up, "Veda, where's Veda?" He begins walking back the way they just came. Sam flies ahead, "I'll find her" he uses redwing to scan the area. Bucky runs along, trying to locate Veda amongst the reuniting people all around them. Sam yells out, "I found her!" He lands on his feet. Bucky reaches Sam and climbs over the rubble, "Veda, hey... on my count" he grabs the metal beam and tosses it aside. Veda let's out a cry and slowly jumps to her feet, wrapping her arms around around his neck without warning.

"I thought I lost you..." she buries her face into his neck. Bucky pulls away to get a good look at her, "you're all grown up... w-how long has it been?" He placed his hands on her face. She smiles, "five years" she nods and pulls him back into a hug. Sam smiles, "is everyone okay?" He enquires. Veda looks up, "nats dead" she whispers. Bucky looks at Sam as silence shadows over them. Sam throws his weapon down and storms away, "everything's gone buck, the compound, nat... Wakanda..." she whispers, a tear rolling down her face. Bucky cradles the back of her head, "it's okay, everything's gonna be okay..." he looks around, noticing the solemn faces as Bruce angrily steps away from Tony's body.

Bucky pulls away, "you're what? Eighteen now?" He smiles and takes her new look in. She smiles, sniffling and wiping her tears away as she nods, "yeah..." she chuckles lightly. He nods, "let's go..." he helps her clamber over the rubble. The remaining avengers are now gathered around Tony's body, watching in despair at his death. Clint is the first to take a knee, watching as everyone else joins in. Bucky kneels and Veda follows, feeling the bitter sting all over her legs. Maybe the adrenaline covered the fact that she did die today, and possibly the fact that a huge metal beam just landed on her legs too... But she can feel it all now...

Nobody really knows how long they've been on one knee for, paying their respect towards Tony, but Veda knows she can't last much longer on her knees, or at all for that matter. She tries her best to keep up with everyone but when the pain gets too much she stumbles forward and places her hands on the floor, groaning in the process. Steve looks up as bucky reaches his hands out, "what's wrong?" His face flashes with worry. Veda rolls onto her back, "died... chest... hurts..." she grimaces at the pain. It feels like a bunch of angry kangaroos are pounding on her chest.

Everyone slowly starts to stand up again as they stare down at the girl, although pepper and Peter seem fixated on Tony's lifeless body, "hey, look at me..." Steve kneels down next to her as Veda grits her teeth in agony. She feels his presence, but can't quite hear his voice, "Rhodey! Fly her to the nearest hospital, whatever you gotta do..." Steve yells over his shoulder. Rhodey turns around, "copy that, cap" he picks the girl up, although bucky is a mass of confusion and worry. He's about to run after war machine as he carries veda through the sky, "let her go, we can find her when she's safe" Steve places a hand on his shoulder. Bucky shakes his head, "what the hell happened?" He turns to face his friend.

Steve sighs and looks at Clint, "we stole the soul stone from the past, but nat sacrificed herself for it. Veda was about to beat her to it, so nat zapped her. It didn't mix well with the metal in her heart, she nearly died. When we got back Steve had to shock her, it killed her, but he brought her back. She was supposed to stay in bed before all this happened, but she wouldn't listen. She must be feeling the after effects..." Clint looks down. Steve looks away, "you killed her?" Bucky looks up at Steve. The captain sighs, "I had to, buck. It was either that or we watched her die on her own. I brought her back, she's okay..." he places a hand on buckys shoulder. Bucky sighs, "yeah, alright-yeah..." he looks around. What the hell happened here?
