another morning came far too quickly. I rolled over begrudgingly to my phone to silence its blaring alarm song. my heart warmed as I was greeted with a message.

morning, bachelorette!

i hadn't received a good morning text from a man in at least five years, and a giddy feeling overcame me. if nothing else, it was fun talking to zach.

also lucky for me, zach was in a time zone two hours earlier than me, meaning he had probably rolled up to the podcast office just as I was waking up. no pressure to send the first good morning text when the sun hasn't even risen in your city yet.

morning, rockstar :)

keeping it simple, or at least attempting to.

today was a show day at the podcast, so I didn't expect to hear much from him. I also planned to be quite busy, as we had a project for a major client due at the end of the week. being as stubborn as I was about never staying late, I had also been falling a tad behind.

this didn't stop me from tuning in to the show at 3, when they went live, though. I listened at work every week, and it typically accompanied me as I drove home and made dinner. the podcast had become a regular part of my daily routine at this point.

"welcome baaaack" ethan sang, as the show began. a few moments in, it cut to AB sitting at the soundboard. "yes, yes. unfortunately zach is not with us today, he's on vacation. meaning AB will attempt to do sound bites..." ethan continued. AB proceeded to accidentally hit two buttons at once. I chuckled softly. we're off too a good start.

I messaged zach as ethan continued on with the ad read for the day.

no show for you today?

he replied quickly.

nope, on vacation with my family  🙃 we'll see how long AB lasts today lol

I smirked.

C: where at?

Z: chicago. dad really wanted to see the bean I guess? just seems like a mirror blob to me

C: i've been there plenty of times and can confirm it's basically just a mirror blob. welcome to the midwest though! 🤠

Z: wait how close is chicago to st. louis?

i paused. it wasn't close, but it was much closer than los angeles.
