"don't forget to text me when you're home," he murmured, fixing his hair in my rearview mirror. I smirked to myself, realizing the mess i'd made of his mane. "it's late."

"you either, at least I don't have to drive into the city." I replied, straightening myself back up as well.

"yeah, true. can't be worse than LA, hopefully," he grabbed his keys from my center console and turned to me. "guess this is it, carson."

emotion bubbled inside me as we bid farewell a second time, but I kept it hidden best I could. this was the first time in an extremely long time I really liked someone and they weren't a complete ass to me. any other guy i'd gone out with would have left by now, especially as soon as the last part of our date was over. zach had been incredible, but also happened to live thousands of miles away.

"i've really enjoyed tonight, all of it." I choked out. he glanced over at me sympathetically.

"carson, i like you a lot. don't fret about the future, we just need to take it a day at a time." I nodded along.

"I know, I know. patience is not exactly my strong suit." I fidgeted.

"well that's an understatement," he winked at me before pressing a final kiss to my head. "alright bachelorette, i've gotta roll. drive safely." he squeezed my hand as he opened the door.

"you too, rockstar." our hands split as he stepped out. he shut the door and came around to the driver's side once more. I rolled my window down to let in a final quick kiss. "bye," I whispered.

"bye." he began to walk swiftly back to his car. I looked around my car for my charging cable and noticed his jean jacket laying in the backseat.

"zach!" I yelled out. "your jacket!"

he turned back, pausing for a moment. "keep it, i'll get it back when you come to LA." without room for argument, he slid into the rental car and shut the door.

I turned on my own car and prepared myself for the drive ahead of me. the drive up there combined with sitting in the running car so long had completely drained the gas in my car, so I headed towards the interstate to find the least creepy gas station I could.

I rolled into a promising one and began to fill the tank. though it was warm this morning, goosebumps covered my arms. I reached into the back for a sweater when I spotted zach's jacket. I slid it on slowly, and reflected on the day i'd had. a buzz overcame my body.

this would not be a one-off hookup. we were just like fire.
