"In the night sky of winter, there is a bright star only visible from this valley. No one knows why this is... but in times of old people would come from far and wide to see it. They believed that anyone who laid eyes on the Winter Star would be blessed with good fortune. Some even claim that the mysterious fruit known as Stardrop is connected to the Winter Star in some way."
A week ago, when Lacryma received mayor's invitation for the Feast of the Winter Star, she thought that this would be such a beautiful opportunity for all the people to exchange presents and celebrate the year that passed, welcome the new year to come. The secret gift giving was an awesome event and she was excited to find out that the villager who was assigned to gift was Abigail. Now, all the excitement was gone and she was joggling with the idea to drop the fest thing and never show up. She was feeling sick. She had a headache, result of the all nighter she pulled through, her stomach was rumbling in hunger. She spent the night thinking of how poorly she treated both Harvey and Sebastian the previous day. It was kinda embarrassing. She knew what she had to do. First she would apologize to Harvey. Then she would leave Sebastian and whatever feelings she had about him, behind. He didn't want to be friends with her. He didn't want to be around her. No matter how socially awkward he was he did have friends and he did reach out to them at some point -but never to her. Whether she had a crush on him or not, she has been nothing less than polite and friendly to him. If he was feeling the same, a tiny bit the same, then he wouldn't attack her like he did, at the first chance he got. But she did deserve it in the end right? Yeah. This was way too complicated for her. Not only Sebastian was a complicated guy but also her self was getting out of line when she was around him. She would make the festival today. Give the present to Abigail, get over with this and come back home. She jumped out of the bed and put a tiny amethyst in a small wooden box. "I wish the new year will bring you closer to your dreams" she wrote on a square piece of paper, which she folded and wrapped with a purple thread around the box.
Now a cup of coffee and a snack, get dressed and get gone. I've got this.
The doorbell made her jump. Who could it be so early?
"Hello farmer girl! Are you ready?"
Sam was standing at the door and Lacryma was happy to see him. Did they have an appointment? She couldn't remember but it didn't matter. His hug was warm and comforting.
"You sure look like shit. Didn't you sleep last night? What's up?"
Lacryma couldn't pretend. She burst to tears in the arms of a very confused Sam, words flooding out of her mouth while he almost had to carry her to the couch. He then run to the kitchen counter to get some water and tissues and heard without saying a word everything that happened the previous day. He was wiping her face and when it looked like she was done with speaking and sobbing, he hold her hands rubbing her cold fingers into his. He didn't know what to say.
"Did I fuck up Sam? What am I supposed to do now? He probably hates me. I don't know how to deal with this. I feel like I don't fit with the three of you. You have your own way of understanding each other and I can't be part of this. I'm just ... different, impulsive, I don't think before I speak."
Sam was skeptic. How could he put this? She was right but then again, not totally. Sebastian was not making it any easier.
"Lacryma, you did nothing wrong. Sebastian is not an easy person to deal with. He keeps everyone in distance not only you. You cannot compare me and Abigail with your self. We grew up all together. We don't really remember our lives without the presence of each other, you know what I mean?" He paused for a bit looking at the time on his phone. "Besides he is talking so highly about you that I doubt whatever happened yesterday would make him hate you. I bet he is upset just like you are. I stopped by the mountain, you know, he was not home. Then went to Abi's he wasn't there either. So I ended up here, because Abi said you were at Robin's yesterday and thought that maybe you guys were together or something".
