Present
I was watching the clock the last five minutes of class. We had to work quietly on our homework until our period ended. I finished mine early and allowed myself to relax a little bit. I also had a free period after this one, since my brothers had one more class and I had to drive home with them. I intended to write my english essay then. However Miss Darby had other plans for me. After the class ended, I was walking towards the door when she stopped me.
"Lyra, you have a free period right?" She asked stepping in my path.
"Uhm... yes, that's right." I answered a little hesitantly.
"Great! You wouldn't mind bringing something to Mister Davis for me, would you?" She turned around and opened some cabinets behind her desk.
"These are some textbooks I borrowed from him." She carried out a cardboard box and put it on her desk. "I haven't found the time to return them yet, but he said he needed them soon."
"Well, I'm not sure that I know where his classroom is." I said hoping to get out of this task.
"Oh it is very easy!" She assured and proceeded to give me directions to get to his classroom.
It turned out that those directions were not so easy as she made it seem. I was walking about for fifteen minutes before I found his classroom. My hands were starting to hurt for carrying those stupid textbooks for so long. I could have already written the introduction for my essay right now.
Allas no point in complaining. All I had to do was knock on the door and give the teacher his textbooks. After that I could find a place to start writing my essay.
I knocked on the door of the classroom. Please let it just be the teacher in there, I thought to myself.
I softly opened the door and was disappointed to see a whole class sitting inside. They were sitting in the exam alignment, the whole room was quiet but now everyone was looking at me.
I thought it couldn't get any worse until I spotted two familiar faces. My two brothers. Noah and Lucian were sitting almost in the farthest row of the class, but I still managed to spot them.
The were both looking at me with a confused but interested expression. After all I was interrupting their exam. I felt my cheeks go warm. Why? Why did this need to happen to me. I was trying to avoid them as much as possible after overhearing their conversation last night.
Ok, lets just get this over with. I turned my face to the teacher who was already approaching me.
"Can I help you with something young lady?" He asked quietly. "We are in the middle of an exam." He said, like I hadn't
noticed that myself.
"Sorry for the interruption, but Miss Darby wanted me to deliver these back to you." I muttered quietly back. "She said you needed them soon." I shamelessly tried to put all blame on my teacher.
"Okay then. You can put those in the back of the class." He sighed.
Great. Awesome. I had to walk all the way to the back, through all these students and my brothers? My luck really said not today.
I turned back towards the classroom. Throwing one glance towards my brothers. Both were grinning, like they knew how much I wanted to just drop the box and make a run for it.
Noah even winked at me. I tried to keep my face neutral but on the inside I was flipping him off.
I decided to just look down at the box while making my way through the students. My stride was quick but light enough that no one could really hear my footsteps. The faster I put those boxes at the back of the class, the faster I would be out of my brothers sight.
