Present
I rummaged through my locker looking for the books I needed for my next class. It has only been one month in this school and my locker looked already disorganized. I finally got all the things that I needed and closed my locker in a hurry, ready to sprint to my next class which was located on the other side of the school.
However when I turned around an obstacle was in my way, or four obstacles to be precise. Olivia and her friends stood in front of me. I had to think a little to even remember the names of the other three.
"Lyra! How are you?" Olivia smiled friendly at me.
I frowned back.
"Eh hi?" I replied hesitantly.
"You look cute today!" She continued like she didn't feel the awkward atmosphere.
"We are wearing the same uniform..." I said confused. Was she on something?
She laughed like I just told her a joke
"You are so funny! No silly but I meant your hair. Did you braid it yourself?" She tilted her head.
I looked at her minions behind her. They were all still giving me the same weird friendly smile even Amanda. Didn't she call me a bitch or something? Were they playing a prank on me?
"Yes, I did." I said a little thrown off.
"You should teach us how to do it!" I think Kate said.
"Yes totally! We could do like a sleepover." Olivia suggested. All the girls quickly agreed and looked over to me with expectation. I really didn't feel like having a sleepover with four annoying girls. Who talked behind my back a week ago. So I quickly came up with an excuse.
"I'm not sure my brother will agree. He is kind off strict."
"Right we heard that you are the Dupont sister. Why didn't you tell us silly?" Amanda giggled.
The penny finally dropped.
Oh.
"Yes that is something friends should know about each other!" Naomi chimed in.
"What's it like living with them? You must feel like the luckiest girl in the world!" Kate squealed.
They all crowded around me asking absurd questions and I quickly shot them all down.
"Stop! Stop talking!" I pit my hands up in front of me.
They all fell quiet and looked shocked at my sudden out burst.
"I know what you are doing and it is pathetic that you guys think that I will just fall for it." I said with irritation in my voice. "After that bathroom conversation it was clear what you guys thought of me and now that you know my surname you suddenly want to be friends again?" I said appalled.
Olivia immediately tried to reconcile me.
"Lyra that was just a miscommunication. We never-"
"No. Don't even try to fool me. I know exactly what I heard and even if your apology was genuine right now and not because you want to get close to my brothers, I would still say no. I would rather not have any friends than hang out with someone like you." I finished off.
Her mouth fell open and her face turned red. The other girls were also shocked and avoided making eye contact. I took it as a sign to take my leave and hopefully get on time to my first class.
I was dreading lunch. This morning Alexander gave lunch money. He laid a stack of bills on the breakfast table in front of me like it was normal. I think it will be enough to last me the whole year.
