After arriving back at the apartment, Luke laid Rosemary down in his bed and tried to convince himself that she was simply asleep.
Helena had already explained that this was not the case.
The enchanted poppyseed, as well as the spell that Sebastian and Vera had begun, had purposefully ensured that Rosemary would be unconscious for at least another two hours... Helena recognised that it was a natural ingredient spell, which wasn't exactly her area of expertise. But of course, she would find out everything she possibly could about this type of magic in order to help Rosemary.
Meanwhile, as the sky grew darker and darker outside, Luke sat on the edge of his own bed and watched Rosemary. Waited for her to wake up. He wanted to be right there when she did - he had no urge to run away this time. He just wanted to know, so badly, what was going through her unconscious mind... if anything.
He'd also found himself stuck in some kind of loop, playing back the conflict in his mind; hearing Rosemary's panic and fear over the phone. Seeing her splayed out on the bed, Vera and Sebastian stood on either side of her, holding unfamiliar items... The blade in Sebastian's hand.
Luke could barely even think once he'd seen that. He saw red. And then, he seemed to see nothing - the rage and the smell of fresh blood almost blinded him in that moment; reflecting on that made him feel...
Ashamed.
Helena clarified to him that it looked like Sebastian was going to use the blade to slice his own hand - that blood seemed to be an ingredient in the spell, which was what she was going to find out more information on.
Although that was much more preferable than Sebastian using the blade against Rosemary, it only caused him another type of stress - even with Helena's attempts to explain what she knew, Luke felt so lost. Like he didn't know exactly what was going on - like he didn't know what to do. And he hated it.Those thoughts only seemed to escape him, even if only briefly, when Rosemary did finally wake up almost two hours later. They were replaced instead by a sense of bone chilling relief and adoration.
"Oh, thank god..." He breathed out, lifting her hand that had been kept safe within his own and pressing a tender kiss to the back of it. Whilst her eyes fluttered open, his momentarily fell shut, quietly revelling in her presence.
"...Luke?" She muttered, feeling his deep breathing against her hand. Her senses were returning to her, and she realised that she felt... Strangely cold. Like she'd been pulled out of an all-encompassing ice bath. It was unsettlingly familiar.
"I'm so glad you're awake..." He whispered, kissing her skin again and feeling her feebly squeeze his hand in return. She still felt as if she was fighting not to slip back into the darkness of that unnatural sleep state.
"I don't... I don't..." She couldn't seem to find her words. Her mouth moved, but her voice failed her. Her head was a blur, foggy and disorienting, and her breathing started to pick up; Luke could tell that she was distressed - he could almost feel it, in fact.
After lowering her hand from in front of his face, he could see the way that her eyes seemed to flicker and struggle to remain open. Instinctively, he gently placed his free hand on the side of her face, and her eyes closed in response; she wasn't giving into the darkness, though. She was giving into his soft, comforting touch, allowing it to calm her. To ground her.
"You're okay. You're safe now." He reassured softly, stroking her cheek with his thumb and feeling her lean into him with a shaky sigh.
