"What if the task he asked you to do was a test of your performance as a secretary?" Bella speculated, casually shrugging her shoulders. "Perhaps he just wanted to ensure that you were good working for him."
Once again, I found myself crafting a lie. Naturally, I couldn't bring myself to reveal the truth, so I had to come up with an alternative explanation to avoid being bombarded with questions.
But, Bella's suggestion did hold some merit. It was possible that the Alpha was simply assessing my capabilities as a secretary, considering that intelligence is also an important aspect of our nature. If he had observed my strength within the pack, it would make sense for him to now observe my ability in the company.
"I actually considered that as well," Ethan chimed in, busily devouring his food. As usual, he had ordered noodles with four siomai dumplings. "Maybe that's why his former secretary left, because the tasks he assigned weren't easy."
"Wrong! That's not the reason, but it's somewhat related," Bella interjected, playfully twirling her chopsticks in the air. "I heard that Rhea left because she noticed something strange about Sir Eros. She said it was creepy."
Bella once again captured my attention, and I listened intently.
"Creepy?" Ethan inquired, clearly oblivious to this piece of information.
"That's the word on the street. Apparently, Sir Eros often accurately guessed what she was thinking. Rhea cursed Sir Eros in her mind, and he somehow knew. He confronted her, questioning what gave her the right to curse her boss..."
Suddenly, I began to understand why the former secretary had left. The Alpha seemed to possess the ability to hear Rhea's thoughts, particularly since she was only human. Rhea was unfortunate in that she didn't know the true nature of Sir Eros.
Bella continued telling information, "Rhea was naturally shocked, but things took an even stranger turn when Sir Eros' eyes suddenly changed color!"
My eyes widened upon hearing Bella's revelation. It brought back memories of our own encounter, and I silently hoped that Bella wouldn't recollect it. However, the incident was still fresh in my mind, making it unlikely for her to forget so easily.
Ethan chuckled and shook his head skeptically at Bella's words. It was evident that he didn't believe in such supernatural phenomena, especially since he had never encountered a werewolf before and couldn't fathom the idea.
Feeling restless, I reached for my glass of water, only to accidentally spill its contents, narrowly avoiding getting it up my nose. I coughed and sneezed repeatedly.
"Hey, be careful. Oh my gosh..." Bella swiftly handed me a tissue, which I gratefully accepted, dabbing it against my mouth. "Are you okay?" she asked with concern. I simply nodded in response, and she turned to face Ethan. "Do werewolves really have eyes like that, right? Werewolf eyes?" Her voice was filled with curiosity.
Ethan took a sip of water while I discreetly took a bite of pork, trying to avoid drawing attention to myself.
"Well, you should ask Sophia," Ethan suggested, pointing in my direction. In a moment of shock, I choked on my food, causing me to cough uncontrollably.
"Oh my god, Sophia!" Bella exclaimed, clearly alarmed and worried about my situation.
"Have some water, first." Ethan stood up and handed me a refreshing drink. I felt a rush of relief as the obstruction in my throat cleared and allowing me to breathe freely once again.
"What's going on with you? You've been restless for a while," Bella commented, her hand gently rubbing my back after I took the tissue from her to wipe my mouth.
