Time for a dose of angst! Lately, Rhythm has become more busier than usual, and doesn't seem to be around anymore. You understand that being a showman and troupe leader is a lot of responsibility. But will it come to the point where he'll be too busy for you?

Key things:

(Y/N) is your name.

This is around the time before skykids, in the Prince's era where the spirits used to be alive.

Enjoy!

Rhythm quietly opened the door to the shared home of his and yours, breathing in sharply at the loud creak. The door fully opened and he stepped inside and took off his warm clothing. He really hoped to Bird it wasn't too late to join dinner with you. However, the whole house was dark and not a single light was illuminated in any of the rooms. Bird please, let you be awake still.

Rhythm tiptoed inside, searching for you. He clutched black wooden box. Because the show he performed had lasted way longer than he originally thought, he was only able to purchase a small necklace at these hours. Hopefully it would be enough as a gift.

"Hello Rhythm."

The owl haired man jumped at the sound of your voice, twirling around to see you seated in the kitchen table with a dimly lit candle. The prepared food laid out had long gone cold and stale. Your eyes were heavy with dark circles underneath and your face showed no form of emotion. Only fatigue was prominent. Rhythm instantly felt guilty for making you wait. Why did he have to do an encore?

"(Y/N)! Darling, I am-"

"Sorry?" You interrupted him with a bitter tone. His owl ears flattened. "I heard that excuse before. What is it this time huh?" You suddenly got up from the chair and it squeaked across the stony floor. "Fans came up to you for attention? Stage problems? It got way out of hand?"

Rhythm narrowed his eyes. "(Y/N), why can't you just be grateful that I'm here now? I'm a little late, sure, but I came back!" You couldn't believe what you were hearing. Those petty excuses were not going to work on you anymore.

"It's the middle of the night! Was your show that important to miss our freaking anniversary?!" You snarled at him, taking a huge step forward and getting in his face. "It was a big opportunity and you know it!" He snapped. "So this entire date is beneath you!"

The both of you continue to argue. You were so angry at him that he missed the most important day of your lives. You prepared a fanciful date night and dinner, but that resembled to be a waste of money and time. Why did this all have to happen? When you first dated Rhythm, it was easy-going. He doted most of his time for you, as he wasn't performing for big events. He was sweet and loving, and so very cuddly.

It all changed when the mention of his shows reached three wealthy families. They wanted him to perform for them, seeing the good criticism others shared. It was big. For both Rhythm and the Troupe. You were fully supportive of the news, excited that your boyfriend was becoming more known in the theater world.

But there's always a price.

Rhythm became busier with each day. At the start it wasn't so bad, he still had time for you. His affection had reduced. Hugs to kisses, to longing looks, to not even a glance. He wouldn't even sleep in the bed you shared. You'd always find him resting on his desk. Rhythm's attitude changed as well. He was more snappy than usual and distant. Whenever you wanted to hang out, he'd yell at you to leave him alone or he would just ignore you.

This wasn't the man you fell in love with. You wanted the old Rhythm back. The one who'd always hoot when you pet his hair. The one to join him on midnight flights when he turned into his bird form. The one that always takes the time to make fancy and complicated pancakes for breakfast.

"You're never around anymore, Rhy!" You screamed and pointed at him with an accusing finger. "It's like you deliberately want to get away from me!"

"I still want to be with you! You know how busy I was in the planning for this show!

"Stop! Just shut up about the show! For once, can't you care about me?!" You yelled in frustration, your voice cracking. Tears streaming down your face.

"(Y/N)!"

"I just wanted a nice anniversary date with my boyfriend! Is that too much to ask?! I thought tonight would have been different, but no! Are you so buried in your work, that you won't even make some time for me?! WHY CAN'T YOU JUST LOVE ME LIKE BACK THEN?!"

Rhythm growled. "MAYBE IF YOU WEREN'T SO ANNOYING AND CLINGY, I WOULD HAVE!" You stepped back a little from the retort. Rhythm glared at you with a fiery look. He said in a cold voice, "I wish we never dated."

Those five words made your whole world crack and fall apart. He didn't love you anymore...? Rhythm immediately knew what he said. "Krill dung- feathers, wait-"

"Save it." You cut him off.

You grabbed something from the dinner table and shoved into his chest. He instantly grabbed it. It was a wrapped up gift. Rhythm only stood in his place as he watched you put on your coat and opened the door.

"Where are you going?" He asked.

"Out. We're done."

"(Y/N) please, can't we just talk about this?"

You didn't answer him for a long moment. "Happy anniversary, Rhythm." You said, a choked sob stuck in your throat. Then you left him in the empty, dark house

Rhythm ripped the present you gave him and it was a picture of him and you in a lovely, blue frame. He remembered this picture. The first date. It was the time you insisted to take a photo after getting ice cream. After taking the photo, you promised to take as many more during the time you guys are together.

And now, the photos have stopped. He could no longer make new memories with you anymore.
