This one shot is not an x reader, but a short fic between two ocs. Futihoxli and Navarre! These characters belong to @The_Firelady, not me. In this fluffy story, Futihoxli has a nightmare and Navarre comes in to comfort his partner.

Enjoy!

Futihoxli tossed and turned in her sheets. She was having a nightmare again. Whimpering, she tried to bury herself in the blankets and pillows, in hopes the bad dream would just pass. But it would not.

Lightning struck in the dark sky, making Futihoxli yelp. Eden was not exactly paradise per say. Krills roamed about and looked for any stray skykids to feast on. The winds were strong and pushed you back with a mighty strength. Huge rocks hurled at you, knocking you off course. It was truly a horrendous place. Why would anyone want to come here? But Futihoxli still trudged her way on.

She had reached the point of where most feared this part of Eden. If you had thought the rocks, the dark dragons, and the strong winds were bad enough, the third part was worse. Red Rocks. The cursed things never seemed to end. It was full out storm of red. Red everywhere. They were so painful to poor sky children who come in contact with them.

To put it in simpler words, the third stage was basically hell.

Futihoxli squinted her eyes at the red storm, knowing she had a quest to do. She began to donate her winged light to the rocky statues that were once skykids like her. They were full of life and light. But all what made them, them, was all gone. 'Those poor souls...'  She thought, sympathy flowing through her. The forest haired sky child lumbered on further, but the storm had gotten worse. There were more rocks, less light statues for her to replenish energy, and the statues were much farther away. Futihoxli knew it would much harder from there on, but she still had to help those frozen skykids.

Gritting her teeth, she went out to the flay. She hissed and cried out in pain, as red rocks pierced through her fragile body. She was about to reach a stone statue, until large, red hand grabbed hold of her. Futihoxli screamed from the sudden action. What was this part?! The hand brought her close to its diamond shaped face, and she could see her scared reflection at its one eye. She grunted, screamed, and struggled to free herself from the monster's grasp. Her light pulsated at a fast rate, her candle almost wanting to go out.

The monster's red light grew brighter and brighter, focusing on her core. Her very light source. And it wanted it. "NO, NO, NO!" She struggled even more, desperate to get out. She didn't want to die! The red thing formed a spear with its claw and aimed right at her core. Futihoxli's eyes widened.

It fired.

"AH!"

"...uti!

"Futi...!

"FUTIHOXLI!"

The skykid blinked the sleep away from her eyes, hearing her name being called out.

"W-wha..?

Upon further observation, she realized she was gripped by the shoulders by Navarre, her life partner. His eyes were wild with panic and worry.

"Futi, are you alright? What happened? I heard you screaming all the way from my room." Navarre stated. Futihoxli's lip quivered and went headfirst into Navarre's chest, weeping quietly. Taken aback by the sudden action, Navarre slowly wrapped around his lover's trembling form and whispered comforting things to her ear.

After she had calm down, Futihoxli explained to Navarre everything that happened in her dream.

"Wow, that...that is terrifying to have a dream on." Navarre awkwardly said, holding Futihoxli's hand in his and rubbing his thumb along it. He didn't know what to comment on that, but it's still pretty scary to think about. "But at least something like that doesn't reside it Eden thank bird. You're alright now." He added.

Futihoxli slowly nodded her head. "Hey Navarre?" Navarre hummed in a questioning tone. "I know this has no relevance to my nightmare, but..would you ever leave me?" Navarre stared in her in surprise. "What? No! Never! I would never, ever leave you!" He protested. "See this?" He tugged gently on the red ribbon tied securely around Futihoxli's neck. His finger gently tracing on the intricate golden patterns that complimented the design. Then he tugged on his own. "We made a promise, that we will never leave the other one behind. These things represent that. Our love represents that." He put his forehead against Futihoxli's and held both her hands. "That vow would never break, no matter what. I love you Futi, and until the end, I'll always be by your side."

Futihoxli leaned to Navarre's touch, batting away happy tears. "Thank you. I love you too." She answered back. The two skykids stayed in their position for a while, breathing in each other's scent and enjoying the warmth and comfort.

Navarre let go of Futihoxli and gave a tender kiss on the top of her head. "Alright, you get some sleep now ok?" Before he could leave the room, Futihoxli called out for him. He turned around. "Nav, could you stay with me? I don't want to be alone tonight." She shyly requested, hiding a bit of her face in her blankets. Navarre's face flushed, but he gladly accepted.

Getting himself comfortable on the bed, Futihoxli hugged him and once again buried her face in his chest, making him chuckle. Navarre held her close and stroked her hair. Her breathing had gotten slower and little snores escaped from her, lulling Navarre into sleep as well. Silence resounded around them. The only noises that were evident was the soft pitter patter of rain tapping on the window and crickets singing their midnight song.
