Naevys had ended up curling up in front of him and telling him to take a nap, which resulted in them sleeping away most of the morning laying out beneath the moon and the ultra starry sky. The double moon cycle had Isoloses feeling all kinds of confused about when he was supposed to sleep versus when he wanted to sleep--when it was early morning in Caelestes, it was early evening in Tenebris, and when it was usually the beginning of their evening, it was early morning in Tenebris--early like 'it's time to get up' early. With 'early morning' in Caelestes, he meant 'people were usually still asleep in their beds' from the night before.
So the times do not add up similarly at all. Day in Caelestes was around sixteen and a half hours, give or take, and the light moon cycle in Tenebris was around thirteen and a half hours long. That's only the day cycles, however, and doesn't account for the twelve and a half hours of the night in Caelestes, and the thirteen-and-a-half-hour dark moon cycle of Tenebris. So in total, Caelestes has thirty-hour days if one was to stay up from dawn to dawn, and Tenebris has a mere twenty-six. Close enough in proximity to one another to make it not quite as difficult as it could be, but far enough away to make it quite a hassle.
He was used to twenty to twenty-four hour work days, getting only the barest minimums worth of sleep to be able to keep up with the duties he had back in Caelestes thanks to his father. He was always on the training fields training new fighters in various kinds of combat, on long stakeout missions with either Isandro or someone meant to act as a second to him depending on the situation, or doing the mountains of paperwork that came from being constantly at war with every realm coinciding in the same sphere as them.
Isoloses was someone with few personal interests, but with his list of daily duties having dwindled to nothing, there was no reason he couldn't learn to do something else. The rest of that evening, he'd tried to get into bat watching, which was as close to 'bird watching' as one can get in Tenebris, and it was boring. He'd tried reading, but he'd never had an easy time doing that, so it failed. He'd even written a list of things to do, just for something to do. He was bored. Naevys had sent him on his way after giving him a velveteen baggy full of coins and told him to amuse himself in town for the evening, but to be home by a very specific time.
Isoloses went to the tavern and drank a couple of drinks and played a hand of poker before he checked the clock and headed home. He'd won the game and doubled the coins that Naevys had given him, so he felt pretty accomplished as he made his way back to Naevys's castle. He took his time, he still had plenty before he had to be back at the castle, but he didn't want to be late and keep him waiting.
The walk back was really quiet and peaceful, and he was looking forward to getting home to curl into bed with Naevys. He was feeling all kinds of affectionate this evening, the couple of drinks he'd had taken the edge off of his self-consciousness. Isoloses was at the front door when he caught the faint scent of fresh rain, green apples, and Áǝɴꬶẚɴ spice, and Isoloses's alpha immediately was surging forward.
When he'd first met Naevys, his alpha hadn't responded to the scent of an omega's heat in decades. But the first time Naevys's heat responded to his rut, Isoloses's alpha had more than made up for its years of ignorance. His alpha had taken one look and caught his scent and everything changed in his mind. It was like some kind of peace settled in, granting him an odd sort of unfamiliar comfort. Isoloses walked quickly through the entryway, following the hallway down to Naevys's room.
He quietly knocked on Naevys's bedroom door, his alpha urging him to just open it, but all he could do was wait. His scent was so strong in the hallway outside the door that Isoloses was anxious to see him, his alpha clawing inside of him, trying to escape and willing to break the door down if he had to.
