"Her body just, like, lifted up into the air and, uh..." He waved his hands around, trying to find the right words.
"And she just, like, hung there. In the air. And her bones... Uh, she..." His eyes were glazed as he relived the traumatizing memory, hands shaking. You hesitantly held a hand out towards his, and he took it, squeezing it tightly. It hurt, but you didn't say anything as he continued, rubbing soothing circles across his knuckles.
"Her bones started to snap." His voice shook.
"Her eyes, man." He sounded like he might cry. "It... It was like there was something, like, inside her head, pulling." His hands trembled as he demonstrated what he was saying, and you held on more securely.
"I... I didn't know what to do, so I..." His eyes were set on the ground in fear, his lips pulling down in a shameful frown.
"I ran away. I left her there." He sniffed and jerked his hand away, clasping his hands around his knees.
"You all think I'm crazy, right?" He scoffed, bringing a hand up to hide his face.
"No. We don't think you're crazy." You'd admit, it seemed a bit far fetched. But the pain, the pure fear in his eyes, his body language, you believed something happened. It may not be exactly what he's saying but something definitely happened.
"Don't bullshit me, man! I know how this sounds." He sneered, glaring at the ground."We're not bullshitting you." Dustin assured
"We believe you." Robin hummed.
"Look," Dustin started, spreading his hands in front of him. "What I'm about to tell you might be a little... difficult to take." Your brows furrowed in confusion at this, having no idea what would come next.
"Okay." Eddie nodded.
"You know how people say Hawkins is...cursed?"
"They're not way off." Robin said.
"There's another world." Dustin explained slowly. What the fuck are they talking about?
"A world hidden beneath Hawkins. Sometimes it bleeds into ours."
"Like ghosts and shit?" Eddie asked.
"There are some things...worse than ghosts." Max said. You were back in your musky apartment, holding your siblings close as the sound of wine bottles and clumbering footsteps came closer. You kissed them on the head and told them to stay quiet, hiding them in the closet, standing tall and defiant as your mother burst through your bedroom door.
"These monsters from this other world.."She screamed at you. For everything that went wrong in her life. Her marriage. Her job. It was all because of you.
"...we thought they were gone."
You heard a whimper from the closet, and even against your best wishes, you knew she heard. Her head snapped to the small closet doors, already taking a step towards it. But she was drunk off her ass. You moved in front of her, blocking her way. She snarled and brought a hand up, and you positioned yourself so you wouldn't fall with the blow. Just like you remembered it, a sharp sting spread across your cheek, the skin red with an imprint of her hand, throbbing.
"But they've come back before."
You gasped from the sudden contact, but weren't surprised. She continued to hit you, shove you, scream at you. But you took it all, absorbed it like a sponge. Because if you didn't, your siblings will. And you'd die before she laid a finger on them. That night she left you sporting a new shiner, bruises littering your arms and torso, and a split lip, leaving you tasting iron and seeing stars. But your family was safe.
Or as safe as they could get.
"That's why we needed to find you." Dustin's voice brought you out of your mind, and you brought a hand up to your nose when you felt it filled with hot liquid. Your hand came back with blood, and you wiped it off on your jeans, focusing on the conversation taking place."Wait a second." You held up a hand, and every eye turned to you. "What...like what kind of monsters?"
Dustin hesitated before answering, contemplating what to tell you. "Tall, pasty monsters. They don't have a face, but their head opens up kinda like a flower, filled with teeth." He tried to explain, staring at his hands. "But there's more....complex things down there." Something tugged at the edge of your memory, you didn't know what, but it wasn't pleasant. You stared at your hands, brows furrowed in concentration.
"That's...that's fucked up."
"I know it's a lot to take in, but Y/n-" You shook your head, shrugging off the hand that had been placed on your shoulder not looking up, trying to figure out this uncomfortable feeling. But you didn't leave. Didn't call them crazy. So the group turned their attention back to Eddie.
"If they're back again, we need to know." Max told Eddie.
"That night, did you see anything?" Robin asked.
"Dark particles, maybe?" Max added. You were barely listening.
"It would almost look like dust," Dustin said. "swirling dust." Your mind flashed back to the nightmare you'd had a few days ago. The ashes, that surrounded you. Had you been dreaming of that place?
"No, man, there was nothing you could see or, uh..." Eddie shook his head. "Or touch."
"You know, I tried to wake her, man." He said, staring off in front of him. "She couldn't move." He mumbled. "It was like she... she was in a trance or something."
"Or under a spell." Dustin said.
"A curse." Eddie played off of Dustin's thought, whatever that might be.
"Vecna's curse."
"Who's Vecna?" Steve asked.
"An undead creature of great power." Dustin stared at Eddie.
"A spell caster." Eddie stared at Dustin.
"A dark wizard." You mumbled.
