For the first time ever, you saw your perfect sister crumble. The brave front she had put on earlier shattered.
Rose's sobs tore through the dark garden's natural ambiance. Her white dress stained green from the mildew. "I overheard everything..." You carefully approached her sitting form under the wisteria.
Her sobs quieted, bringing her hands up to brush the tears away. You sat next to her and placed your hand above hers in comfort. "It's nothing. Everything fine." She whimpered, not very convincing.
"No, it's clearly not!" You turned to now face her with your body. Your sudden burst caused her to jump at the noise and look over at you with surprise. "You may be older than me by 5 minutes but that doesn't make me the clueless kid! Stop keeping me in the dark!" Rose tried to fumble an answer before being interrupted, "You can't marry Dream!"
Sitting back down quickly with your hands up in disbelief, "Not only is he a complete stranger, but he also doesn't even show his face!" you scoffed.
Your attention was brought back to Rose as she called your name sternly. Not only were her eyes now exposing her irritation but her frown grew deeper. "Just promise me you won't do anything reckless. I've got this."
"What about Wilbur?" You retaliated, not backing down.
Rose sighed sadly, "I don't have a choice. We're going to marry tomorrow."
What?! Your panic rose at her words. "So soon?"
"Father insisted. He didn't want to give Dream time to change his mind." Her eyes rolled in annoyance at her father's actions.
"So tonight...?"
Rose nodded solemnly, "It's the last night we'll be together. I'm moving over to his tomorrow after the wedding."
"Rose..." Utter devastation filled your body, you were going to lose your sister tonight and then most likely never hear from her again. "...surely there's something I can do."
She shook her head silently in disapproval. "I don't want our last memory together to be over a pointless argument." Your eyes met hers, "Tomorrow, can we play pretend? Maybe, if we pretend I'm excited for the wedding, tomorrow will be less scary."
You returned her small smile, squeezing her hand softly. "Anything for you."

"Ready for your big day?" You shut the door behind you quietly. Rose jumped at your voice, she hadn't noticed you enter. Turning to face you you saw her with a bashful smile that matched yours. Without context, one could have been fooled into believing today was in reality her happiest day.
"I'm glad you're here, Y/n. I wanted to ask you an important question."
"Anything."
Rose beamed at your quick response, "I've dreamed about my wedding a thousand times, and all my dream weddings have one thing in common."
