The boy's parents demanded nothing short of perfection in everything they did - their business, their relationship...their child. Everything had to be perfect. In their pursuit of perfection, they forgot that the boy was just a kid, a child who longed for his parent's attention.
The boy stared down his rival, the pinkette's unbothered expression annoying him. He could hear his best friends cheer from behind him, the two brunettes yelling motivating phrases to push the boy into victory. Unfortunately, that's not how it ended.
With a final threat, to a young blonde kid alone, the victor walked off leaving the boy on the floor as he held his face in agony. He had been struck completely across his face, a bleeding horizontal slit overlaying his nose and trailing off mid-cheek.
Ignoring the worries of his two friends as they ran up to check on him. The boy held back cries of excruciating pain and suppressed the nauseating smell of iron.
But that wasn't what hurt the most. What hurt was the first thought that came to the boy's head - maybe now they'll care about me.
This couldn't be further from the truth.
The first thing the boy heard from his parents as he showed up at the door...
"It's hideous!"
"We mustn't let anyone see him like this!"
The pair glared down at the boy in disgust. He was no longer perfect.
The boy was told to hide himself.
Staring into the mirror at the miscolored skin the boy sighed. He was at least grateful that his friends had not abandoned him even if he rarely left the house. They would often sneak into his room, keeping quiet as they climbed the great oak tree that lead to the window. The boy knew that his parents wouldn't have cared if they found out it was them, that was if they even noticed. He didn't have the heart to ruin his friend's fun.
Carefully finishing the black line onto the circular plate the boy released a breath of relief as he inspected the flawless curve. Carefully balancing the mask on his hands he whispered the Enderian enchantment onto the item before marveling at the purple glow it emitted lightly before dissolving back to normal.
Making sure that the circumference fit him well he clipped the piece behind his head. Admiring the smiling mask in the mirror. It might look ridiculous to anyone but he liked it.
The boy skipped down the descending stairs, noticing his discussing parents from the corner of his eye. Making his presence known from the footsteps of approaching them he waited for any sign of approval. Any change in expression that would let him know that they could his accept him like this, flaw masked away. But he was met with the same look of disgust.
No matter how hard the boy tried to cover up his imperfection, he was now forever flawed.
He knew this now.
