That night, as a black cab pulled up outside one of the few semi-detached brick houses that lined the tree blanketed street, Lily expressed brief thanks to the driver and stumbled out the car.

Despite her wavering steps, she did not fall nor falter in her movement; this same situation was a recurrence and one she was not a stranger to.

How early the morning had aged was unknown to the drunken girl, a lifeless phone battery meant she could only go off the dead silence of wild birds that rested, awaiting the right time to come alive once again to chirp and tweet the rhythm of their morning song, and the few speckles of silver stars that glittered the night sky as she looked up past the power lines and withering leaves of the old oak tree that stood on the small area of grass outside her house.

Time was somewhat plentiful for the girl to join the slumbering robins that nested in that same oak tree were they could be seen from her bedroom window, except her nest was covered in blankets and pillows which was meant to host many of the blondes dreams and soft, peaceful snores, but more times than not, it was rather a bearer of sleepless nights and nightmares.

Abrupt rattling of the girls keys as she wondering up the small concrete path and towards the few front steps of her home cut through the the thick, chilling silence that encompassed the street.

Pearl streams of moonlight that shone down onto the side of the girls face attracted her head to groggily turn sideways, and look up as the silhouette of clouds drifted apart to display and opening for the moon to peak through.

A stronger gush of wind from the once light breeze whispered through the trees as they swayed, prompting the girl to wrap her arms around her body clad only in a thin dress.

Shivering, she lifted her foot to the few steps that led to the front door– still completely enamoured by the ethereal scene above.

But that dazed fascination left her distracted in an intoxicated state.

Not watching where she was going, the blondes foot missed were it was supposed to be placed on the next step– a rush of adrenaline shooting through her system as she collapsed forward to smash her body and face into the curve of the step. The alcohol that flowed through her system disrupted her ability to be sharp and catch herself in time, resulting in extreme pain and stings in the injured areas.

Hushed groans and whimpers were breathed into the concrete.

Lily slowly pulled herself up and sat still on the steps for a few a moments with her head buried in the cross of her arms. Palms red raw, knees and shins scraped and what felt like a broken cheekbone erupted soft cries and tears to drip down her cheek.

As the salty tears stung the scrapes across her cheek a tickling, wet sensation run from the top of her nose, travelling to gather at the corner of her mouth and drip down off her chin. Lily licked the fluid and a slight metallic taste sweetened her tastebuds sending her into full panic mode.

Her heart palpitated– unable to control it's fast and unsteady rhythm as blood poured down her face.

Lily jumped up in a panic and held the deep gash across her nose bridge that oozed the crimson liquid, she tried to prevent it from further ruining her white dress but was suddenly hit with a heavy wave of dizziness and nausea.

Disorientated and confused she ran up the rest of the steps, fumbling with her keys in one hand as she held her face with the other.
