the events that had followed june 28th had everyone shocked. the mind flayer had been back.

nancy and jonathan had been separated from everyone else once more, investigating unusual rats that got them fired from their internships. jonathan was quite upset about it but quickly got over it once both steve and robin didn't answer wouldn't answer their phones.

everything was just so crazy, especially when jonathan found out steve, robin, dustin, and erica had managed to get into the heart of the secrect russian base underneath starcourt mall. the older had been messed up pretty bad, specifically his face.

when joyce had came with the awful news of hopper not returning, el had been welcomed into the byers home no questions asked. everyone was plagued by greif and sorrow by the time everything was done.

the four comforted each other and they easily learned how to adapt; joyce gaining a new daughter and responsibility and will and jonathan gaining a sister.

like greif does, it started to disperse. the party started to come around and hang out all together once more. it most definitely wasn't the same though; max seemed to always be in a darker mood, el was still clearly devastated and it was easily shown, and will and mike acted weird around each other.

jonathan and steve hung out everyday, they both didn't have jobs no longer. steve and robin were looking for a job together but no such luck just yet. jonathan talked about applying for a job to joyce but that was soon shot down once she dropped the bomb she was looking to sell the house.

it didn't concern jonathan at first, he just assumed they'd move to a new house, somewhere they didn't have terrible memories like the demogorgon ripping through the wall from the upsidedown. when joyce started to talk about the 'amazing' place of california, jonathan knew hawkins wouldn't be the place they'd call home soon enough.

thinking about moving away from steve made jonathan's heart shatter. they were so use to hanging out with each other every single day and now they'd have to call each other everyday? that was such a big change. what if steve doesn't even wanna be with me? was the reoccurring thought in jonathan's brain.

he didn't know how to tell his boyfriend, especially when joyce had confirmed they would be moving to california once the house sold. she decided it would be best to get away from this town. all three of them couldn't deny this.

today; jonathan invited steve over. he couldn't bare the thought to tell him he was moving away so he thought seeing the for sale sign would be better.

currently; jonathan sat waiting on the porch steps. he so afraid what would happen. he loved steve. no way did he want to breakup.

jonathans heart dropped once steve's car pulled up to the driveway. standing up, jonathan slowly walked to steve as he got out of his car, curiously peeking at the for sale sign.

the younger looked at steve's confused face and just hugged him tightly.

"what's wrong?" steve asked, quite concerned. "moving," was the only thing jonathan could say as he suddenly pulled away from the hug. "moving houses? oh jonathan don't worry—," steve started with a soft smile. "moving states, california steve," jonathan corrected.

this left steve amazed at this information. the byers, in california. it couldn't be. the byers only knew hawkins indiana, why california? why not another city or even a close state.

"you can't, well i mean you can but i'd miss you so much. why don't you come live with me? my parents aren't home. never. jonathan—," steve was talking way too fast for jonathan to comprehend. "steve i can't, i can't leave joyce, will, and el to their own. i have too," steve cut him off with a frown. steve nodded slowly.

"i understand if long distance—," jonathan tried to start but was immediately cut off. "long distance or not we're still together byers. nothing can change that, we'll figure out something i promise jon."

the two wrapped each other in a big hug. even if they were still together jonathan worried it wouldn't be the same. steve on the other hand knew it wouldn't be the same but he was prepared; besides, he saw jonathan in his future no matter what, if that took moving to california as soon as he had enough money then that's what it took.
