Chapter 2

"I'm going to look for some firewood, I heard it's going to be really cold at night." Jisoo grabbed an axe and a small bag before walking out of the tent. After about an hour, Jisoo walks back to the tent with a bag of firewood. Immediately, she starts a fire with the firewood before walking back inside the tent.

She finds Chaeyoung asleep in the tent. Jisoo covers Chaeyoung with the blanket before going to sleep as well. The next morning, Chaeyoung wakes up, feeling much better, she looks beside her to find Jisoo giving her some food and water.

"Did you eat?" Chaeyoung asked her while rubbing her eyes.

"I'm not really hungry." Jisoo takes a sip of water. "We might be able to cover some ground today. Do you want the tent to stay here or for it to come with us?"

"We should probably bring it with us just in case we forget where it is." Chaeyoung starts packing stuff in their backpacks with Jisoo. Then, after a while, they set off following the compass to the west.

After a while of walking, they find a few trees. Jisoo chops the firewood from the trees and puts it in a separate bag before they continue walking. They then find some paw prints on the sand. Jisoo slowly examines it. 

"It looks like a fox's prints." Jisoo said while inspecting the paws.

"Should we get something to eat? The sun is setting." Chaeyoung's stomach grumbled again.

"Sure." Jisoo chuckled before setting up the tent. Chaeyoung grabs some food for the both of them and some water.

"We only have a few bottles of water left." Chaeyoung tells her.

"Save some bottles, we can extract water from the plant roots and boil it when we don't have any water left." Jisoo said while munching on some food.

"Why did you decide to join the expedition?" Chaeyoung asked.

"I wanted to get my mind off of something.." Jisoo replied in a small voice.

"Should we try to find more people to share our stuff?" Chaeyoung tries to break the silence.

Jisoo nodded in agreement. 

"I'm going to sleep." Jisoo yawned before packing away the rubbish.

That night, it was very cold. Jisoo gave the blanket to Chaeyoung, but she was feeling very cold herself. When Chaeyoung woke up, she removed her bandages and her wounds were almost all gone. She checks on Jisoo and finds Jisoo sweating a lot.

She wipes Jisoo's sweat and unbuttons a part of the uniform. She then takes a sip of water before eating a small snack. Jisoo wakes up to see Chaeyoung already munching on a granola bar. 

Jisoo has a massive headache. The heat is taking a toll on her. She drinks some water before packing up and moving West again. 

"Are you okay?" Chaeyoung notices Jisoo looking pale and sweating a lot.

"Yeah, I'm fine, it's just a headache. It'll go away." Jisoo takes a sip of water.

"Let's take a break." Chaeyoung leans Jisoo by a set of rocks.

Jisoo wipes away her sweat. A few minutes later, they continue walking. The sun was steaming today. Suddenly, Jisoo collapses from the heat.

"Jisoo?" Chaeyoung called her name but receives no response.
