The three girls bobbed up and down in the water along with the gentle waves as they caught up
"Sadie, how can you say "Chicago isn't that bad" after everything you've been through?"
Maggie asked making her friend laugh
"Honestly I don't know, maybe I'm crazy. But my dad is from there, so is Kelly...so I guess it just feels like another home now. Y'all should come visit."
Charlotte spoke up
"Yeah, let me run that by my parents. Hey Mom? Dad? Can we go visit Chicago where Sadie was shot and kidnapped? That would go over well."
"It's not as bad as you make it sound."
All of a sudden out of nowhere a large wave crashed into the trio, pushing them under the water.
Sadie held what little breath she had as the water pushed her around underneath it. She became disoriented and she tumbled in the water, the sound of water rushing in her ears.
The memory of the car crash off the bridge came rushing back, that helpless feeling in the water paralyzed her. Her concentration of trying to surface was broken as she seemed to go limp, a feeling of dread overtaking her.
Squeezing her eyes shut in the darkness of the murky water she floated almost surrendering to the water.
A pair of strong hands reached down, wrenching her to the top side. The bright sun hitting her face shocked her as she took a deep breath as she was dragged to the surface.
"Sadie!"
It was Kelly, he sounded panicked.
"Sades?! You ok?!"
She coughed and took another breath
"Yeah...yeah I'm ok."
She looked up at her brother, he looked worried.
"You sure?"
She just nodded, as her friends came closer to the pair. Kelly ran a hand over her hair, smoothing it down.
"Hey girls, let's take a break, get some lunch?"
Kelly wrapped an arm around Sadie, Maggie and Charlotte followed them out of the water and to their spot on the beach.
Sitting down on a towel Sadie wiped the salt water from her face as her heart still raced.
"You alright?"
Maggie asked, sitting beside her, followed by Charlotte.
"Yeah, I'm good."
"You sure? You look kind of freaked?"
Sadie looked to her friends
"There may be one more incident that I forgot to mention,"
She gave her friends a lopsided smile as she told them about the crash.
