The next shift at the firehouse Sadie sat on her bunk reading when the smell of food wafted into the room.

This caught her attention because all trucks had been dispatched for a multi vehicle collision, and she hadn't heard them come back yet.

She sat for a moment listening for voices or anything to indicate that anyone was there.

Hearing nothing she closed her book, sitting it on the bunk, and crept towards the kitchen.

The possibility of one of the office workers cooking crossed her mind, but they never cooked.

Standing in the hallway she peeked around the corner into the common room seeing a man standing at the stove working on whatever it was he was cooking.

Staring at him he looked familiar to her, but she knew she had never met him before. He looked like he belonged there, he even knew where the spices were kept up in the cabinet.

"Can I help you?"

He asked with a slight smile, without looking up.

Sadie took a step into the room before clearing her throat and speaking up.

"I think I should be asking you that question."

He looked up seeing the young girl staring at him with a look of caution.

"Oh I'm Matt Casey, I used to work here."

She paused for a moment then realized why he looked so familiar. There were pictures of him in the firehouse and one on Kelly's desk that he kept of the two men.

"Captain Casey?"

"That's me!"

He smiled

She walked closer to him as he gave her a curious look.

"Are you Sadie?"

"The one and only!"

She smiled looking up at him.

He took a step forward and wrapped her in a hug.

"Kelly has told me so much about you! It's nice to finally meet you!"

"Likewise Mr Casey."

"Please, call me Matt."

He chuckled, pulling back looking down at the young girl.

"I heard you have a hard time staying out of trouble."

"Hey! The trouble finds me. I don't go looking for it!"

He laughed again

"Yeah, definitely a Severide."

She looked at the items on the counter, trying to figure out what he was cooking.

"Ever had corned beef?"

He asked

"Yeah, Gallo makes it sometimes....then everyone complains that it's not as good as yours."

"I literally gave him the recipe!"

The sound of trucks arriving pulled the pair's attention towards the app floor.

"Do they know you're here?"

She asked him

"Nope, wh-oof!"

Sadie grabbed the bottom of his shirt and yanked him down, pushing him below the counter.

"Uh oh! Sadie is cooking again!"

Cruze announced as the group made their way in.

"No corned beef for you then Joe!"

She narrowed her eyes pointing a spatchula at him.

"Still won't be as good as Casey's"

He quipped, sticking out his tongue.

"Aw Cruze I didn't know you felt that way about me."

Matt said as he stood up next to Sadie.

An audible gasp echoed through the room before a chorus of  "Casey!" Filled the room and everyone converged on him, hugs and handshakes a plenty as the sight of their Captain was a  welcomed one.

After the commotion died down Kelly made his way over to his best friend and the two embraced in a hug.

"It's good to see you man. How long are you in town for?"

Kelly asked

"Just a few days, I started getting a little homesick so here I am."

"The boys good?"

"Yeah, doing great."

"Good to hear man, and I see you met Sades."

Kelly stated looking at his sister who still stood in the kitchen, watching the interaction between the two.

"Yeah, she interrupted my corned beef process."

Casey laughed looking towards her as well.

She scoffed

"Please, you're lucky I didn't come at you with a halligan."
