The ride to the firehouse was oddly quiet, and somewhat tense. Sadie couldn't help but notice the glances she got from her brother in the rear view mirror.
Arriving they all climbed from the Mustang, Sadie stayed back with Stella as Kelly quickly grabbed his bag and made his way inside.
"That was weird right?"
Stella asked, watching the retreating form of her husband.
"Yeah."
"You think he knows?"
"No way, how would he?"
"He's solved arsons, you think figuring this out would be hard?!"
Stella yelled in a whisper as they walked through the doors of Firehouse 51.
Later that day Kelly's leg bounced nervously as he sat at the desk in his quarters, looking through the glass as Sadie laughed at something on her phone, seeming not to have a care in the world.
"Hey Lieutenant?"
Cruz knocked on the door, interrupting his thoughts.
"Yeah?"
"Gears all clean, trucks repacked."
"Great, thanks."
Kelly turned back to his desk, to stare as a form he has yet to fill out. Cruze turned to leave, but something felt off with Kelly.
"You ok Lieutenant?"
"What?"
"You good? You seem kind of...distracted?"
Kelly turned back around to face the man.
"What signs were there that Chloe was pregnant?"
Cruse gave him a questioning look, thrown off by the sudden question.
"Is Stella...?"
"No...no uhhh..."
He caught Kelly looking through the glass to where Sadie sat.
"No, there's no way. You don't think?...."
"I found the receipt for a pregnancy test, and it was Sadie that bought them."
"But she spends most of the time at the firehouse, then home and-"
"And I let her go out a few times with that Collin kid."
"Yeah, but I'm sure they only went to the movies or something."
Cruze tried to cover for Sadie, not believing that what Kelly said could be a possibility.
"Teenagers are sneaky Cruze, I know I was."
Later in the day Cruze was sitting at the Squad table when Sadie walked out onto the floor, book in hand, probably going to hide in the turnout room, something she seemed to do when she needed some quiet time.
"Yo Sades!"
He called out, catching her attention. Stopping, she looked over to see the man sitting at the table alone.
"What's up Joe?"
"How you feelin?"
"Uh..fine? Why?"
She asked as she walked over to him, curious to where this conversation was going.
"No nauseousness? Being tired? Cravings for a certain food?"
"Huh?"
"You know when a woman's body is going through changes-
"-Woah, ok. Not that it's any of your business but I already hit puberty Cruze."
"Uh.."
She watched as he nervously scratched at the back of his neck.
"Look...Severide found the receipt."
"Receipt? For what?"
"A pregnancy test..."
"WHAT?!"
Sadie looked around, hoping no one heard her outburst. Grabbing Cruze by his shirt she dragged him out to the apron.
"Look...it wasn't for me."
"Well Severide seems to think it was!"
"It was for-"
She stopped herself before blurting the truth.
"A friend."
"A friend?"
"Yeah."
The pair paused as Stella walked through the doors. Seeing them, and the desperate look on Sadie's face, she walked over.
"What's going on guys?"
Sadie looked between the two, taking a calming breath she spoke up.
"Kelly found the receipt..."
Stella looked to her, confused.
"Receipt for?"
"What do you think?"
Sadie leveled her with a knowing look, which seemed to make something click with Stella.
"Oh...oh! Oh no!"
"Yeah."
"Kidd? Are you?"
Cruze asked with a wide smile.
"Cruze you tell Kelly anything and I swear-"
She sternly stated with a pointed finger
"-Tell Kelly what?"
Her husband's voice startled the group, as their wide eyes swung to him as he stood nearby with crossed arms.
He walked closer, standing between the two women.
Sadie nervously glanced between her brother and sister in law.
"Im gonna...I'm gonna go."
Cruze nervously took a few steps away before retreating into the firehouse.
Kelly turned to face the two main women in his life.
"So since Cruze seems to have a big mouth, you two know what I found right?"
Stella nervously crossed her arms, nodding.
"Why keep it from me?"
He looked at his sister.
"We said no more secrets right Sades?
"Yeah..."
"So? Is there a reason you think you might be pregnant? Do we need to have the talk, or is it too late for that?"
"It wasn't for me Kel..it was for a-"
"-She bought it for me, Kelly."
Stella interjected
"For you?...Stella? Are you...?"
"The line was super faint and...and I didn't want to say anything until I went to the doctor and-"
Stella said quickly, nervous to her husband's reaction.
Sadie watched as her brother's face lit up, a smile wider than she had ever seen.
"So you're?"
"Don't get too excited...but yeah."
Stella's smile matched his, as he grabbed her up in a hug pressing his lips to hers.
Sadie took this moment to silently step away and make her way back into the firehouse, leaving the two people she loved most to share this moment together.
